We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennyferth Diaz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennyferth , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
The beauty Industry is changing at great speeds, but the education system is stuck 20 years in the past. There is an abundance of different products but is overwhelming as a professional, to not just find the right products but also the techniques to treat the different types of hair that we never saw on the books. My goal is not only to make a client happy on day one,but to find the way to teach them and empower them to keep doing it right at home, in a more inclusive way. Living in a country where we are rich en cultures and diversity is a huge advantage.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m from Bogotá/Colombia and my business started as a hobby right after I gave birth to my second child. One day I was tired of the way I looked, my self esteem was at is lowest, my insecurities were bigger than ever and I decided to take action, starting with baby steps and instagram was my safe place, I found inspiration and I also feel brave enough to inspire others.
My curiosity and energy grew bigger every day, my hair was always a problem because I never felt confident when it was in its natural stage, I used to straighten it every day to feel I was part of the parameters of beauty, taking care of my hair and skin was my first step.
The magic started when I decided to experiment with natural mixtures and different routines, I started the tutorials and the tips for the people with the same struggle, easily we became a community a safe place to share experiences and suggestions, the online coaching was the first attempt at entrepreneurship.
I’ve been helping curly girls around the world trough online coaching, finding the right products, the right techniques
And mostly giving them the tools to find the confidence to embrace themselves, more than 2000 couching sessions and proudly all of them succeed.
I became a certified cosmetologist to improve the way to help my curly community and I started a mobile curly experience, right now I’m working on different projects that are also hair related.
I became very close to the alopecia disease and it touched me in a personal and deep way, my daughter lost the 95% of her hair for this reason and find the strength to keep going, inspired us to rewrite our purpose and priorities.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honesty is key when you have the power to share your opinions about products and procedures, being selective about what I recommend has been very important to me, I want to offer the best service with the best products based on each person’s necessities. Listening to my clients in a deeper way is helping me build my own line of products
My goal is to help people look their best and gain the confidence to realize that their real power comes from within

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media has been the best tool to attract more clients, the exposure in a platform like Instagram and Facebook is very important to me, even though sometimes I change my content creation frequency, the videos from the past continue doing the work. It’s really amazing how helpful social media can be for a business.
