Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cyle Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cyle, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
A lot of practicing and studying what some of my favorite producers were doing to get the sounds they were getting. The only way to speed up the process is by making as many beats as you can, regardless of how they sound, it’s more about the repetition and consistency. Consistency is the most essential skill. Obstacles wise , there really aren’t any, as long as you have a laptop or some type of machine to make beats then you have everything.
Cyle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m CJ a Producer/ Recording engineer . Originally from Middletown, CT . Made a couple stops via the military and ended up in Atlanta , GA. I never was big into making beats or even music , I was a fan but had no interest really. One day I seen my brother DJ some party’s and weddings and thought that was cool, but that really wasn’t enough. I wanted to get real in depth of how your favorite music was made and be apart of that. It all started when I was in the military and all my friends would come to my little dorm room and I make a beat on computer speakers and record them. Ever since then it has just all been about consistency. One thing people should know is that when we make music it is an experience and that’s something I bring to the artist I work with, not just the beats and pressing record, I want to but artist in a space where they can have a clear mind and just focus on making the best and most creative music they can.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Giving. Creating something that people can use to uplift their day or remind them of a special moment in their life. That feeling of being able to be there for a stranger without even knowing them. The Greatest power of music.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a creative, “ Ego is the Enemy” is one of the best books you can come across. We understand the industry we are in and everything that’s comes with it, good and bad. Understanding that there is more bad then good and how to navigate this industry with a positive mindset is very important, yet one of the most overlooked difficulties. Understanding nothin is entitled and this is a long run game .
