Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenna Matlin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jenna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
As a psychic tarot card reader and medium, I’ve encountered many problems due to misperception or outright bias against my actions. From banks refusing to service me, to businesses expecting that I should work for their events for exposure, to being tested by clients it can be hard to navigate.
People are surprised that I am a professional and treat my service-based business as a business. I’ve had to learn a lot about business (which I love) but it was made harder by the fact that I am sandwiched between conartists who use readers to con people, and the businesses and state agencies to enact laws to tamp them down. There is no distinction between myself and those other people, but that is equivalent to a predatory lender, meaning all banking is suspect.
In actuality, I am doing more transparent and honest work than in any other endeavor in my life. I am highly educated, I am logical and practical, and I just happen to have a unique skill set that I use as honestly and with as much care as I can.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
People often ask me, “When did you know that you were psychic?” But honestly, that is not the right question. The question really is, “When did you realize that everyone else is not psychic like you are?” I’ve always been precociously psychic and picked up palm reading and tarot in Jr. High and High school, respectively. Many girls do, but some like myself, never put it down, it is like learning a new tool that works just for and with me, and I never went back.
This is common in other talents you see, too. Kids good at music will gravitate towards and find ways to express that talent, same with art or science, and the same with this. So, I’ve been reading for others my whole life, but it was in 2012 that I decided to take the leap and go full-time. Since then, I’ve expanded my services to include readings, classes, and business mentorship both in person, online, and by phone.
My approach as a reader is warm and engaging. I do not believe in a hard fate: like a grey-bearded man in the clouds chiseling out my life on a stone tablet. Rather, I see tarot like a pair of binoculars: helping us look ahead to see where we might avoid danger, or lean in. Tarot looks at probability curves in a generous Universe where we have free will.
So people often come to see me when they are at crossroads places in their lives, or when they wish to connect with a loved one who has crossed over, My work tends toward focusing on healing and provisioning clients with the hope and clarity they need to navigate their lives.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As a self-employed person, there is no external pressure to get things done so you need to be outrageously self-motivated and disciplined. I also do business mentorship for people in my industry and I have that the number one factor to success is not talent, or even hard work. It is the ability to get out of your own way. The capacity to hold space for and remain in charge when resistance appears is huge. There are two books that I recommend that powerfully speak to this: Playing Big by Tara Mohr and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. Both of these books had a profound impact on me.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started to go pro I made the conscious decision to “get my chops” by working at festivals and later, parties. There was no rulebook or education on how to do this in a way that was professional for a reader. I made a lot of mistakes (some very costly) along the way and later honed my processes into something that protected me while inspiriting confidence in my clients.
My resilience can best be seen in my three books: Have Tarot Will Travel, Have Tarot Will Party, and Will You Give Me A Reading? All three books act as a how-to guide for up-and-coming psychic professionals who wish to be a practitioner. I took what was incredibly difficult and hard-won lessons into something that would help others not have the same challenges. I think this is the biggest evidence of who I am as a person, I an deeply empathetic to suffering and I use my own suffering to help mitigate that in others.
