We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Niesha & Ericka Baker & McCracken. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Niesha & Ericka below.
Niesha & Ericka, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
We’ve been consumers of Press-ons for nearly three years and decided it was time to be an Owner and not just a consumer. Black women spend millions every year on beauty brands yet we represent a small percentage of owners in the business. We decided we were not only going to become owners but would present quality products that focus on these three pillars:
Affordability
Time
Health
Our nails are affordable and cost half as much as a gel or SNS manicure.
The small amount of time it takes to apply Press ons gives you more time to focus on what and who you love.
Your own nails grow healthy under the Press ons, guaranteed.
We appreciate your support and hope you can continue to support BOSSY by becoming a customer and referring us to your besties!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We started Bossy Press-On Nails after we had been consumer of press-ons for several years. We were talking about the price of getting your nails done regularly and how expensive it can become. So, Ericka was like we can do this, we can start our own press-on nail line. I (Niesha) nervously said okay. Then, Ericka immediately went online and started ordering supplies.
We make press-on nails for people who want to be stylish and trendy without breaking the bank every two weeks for a set of nails. We believe that press-on nails save time and money while keeping your nails healthy.
Bossy is a black, woman-owned business in a space where black women are major consumers but have very little ownership.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
We met in 1994, so we have been best friends for almost 30 years. Our initial encounter didn’t make us fast friends. Niesha pretty much told me to mind my business when I asked her name…lol. Regardless of that, we became fast friends from growing up in the same neighborhood and have leaned on each other through the trials and triumphs. . We have been there for almost EVERYTHING in each other’s lives. We are more than friends, we are family. Now, we are blessed to say business partners!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we first started out, we bought pre-polished nails because they were easier to package and we didn’t have the necessary tools to polish them ourselves. It was great to pick out what we liked but we really wanted to learn more about nail designs and find a way to create our sets in house. We later bought new equipment and experimented with colors, powders, foils and other nail designs and decided we only want to sale nails we create. Today, all nails are made by us and only 10 nails are made to ensure that they are customized for the consumer.
