We were lucky to catch up with Matt Land recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, thanks for joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my life is that money does not buy happiness.
Coming out of college that’s what I thought the solution was. Society trains us to go get a big corporate job and work your way up. The 9-5. It’s safe, and just what you do.
With that I went straight into the Fortune 50 tech world and started working my way up. I did very well to the point where I never had to even look at my bank account I just knew it was good, but I was miserable. The same day to day surrounded by people who coast and take advantage of each other and only chase money. It quickly became clear to me that there is more to life than that.
Even in the hardest struggles of the early days of my business where I had basically no money at all – I was, and still am the happiest I’ve ever been.
Do what you love!
Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
By trade technically I’m a filmmaker, photographer, and business owner, but at this point I feel like what I’m a part of is bigger than I am, and my purpose is to inspire others to do what they love. It’s a simple act that will solve all of your problems, and if more people made the sacrifice to make it happen I truly believe the world would be a better place.
As a business this approach is reflected in our work and inspires others to take action through powerful stories and acts of inspiration. Our hearts lie in the outdoors, and our films and photography celebrate it to bring new awareness and change.
With strong beliefs of positive morality and a deeper connection we are selective in the stories we tell and only partner with brands and organizations who align with our values.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My favorite part of creative work is the honor of meeting absolutely incredible people and getting to tell their stories. On top of that it helps them grow and land new business deals, partnerships, and so much more. Blows me away.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Peanut butter and honey sandwiches boii sacrifice to make it happen!! Year one new business no money life hahaha now I eat them for a humble reminder lol
