We recently connected with Assata Salim and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Assata , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Take the risk! For most of my life I have been known to be very calculated and practical in most aspects of my life. For this reason alone, I’ve operated my business while also maintaining a 9-5 career. Well, about a year ago that all changed unexpectedly. October 2021, I was pushed into fulltime entrepreneurship and I must say I was terrified. At the time I had no clients under contract, no real plan, and only a small about of resources to invest. Sure I could have done the practical thing and found another job but was that what I really wanted? I knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and even though I didn’t feel ready I decided to take the risk and the leap of faith. Before doing anything I took a trip to Belize with my mom and son. It was my birthday and I also just needed a mental break to refresh and recharge. There’s nothing more inspiring than seeing the world and all it’s opportunities. Upon my return I started moving, having meaningful conversations, and watching the seeds I’ve planted in the past blossom right when I needed them the most.
Taking the risk is a process of self-reflection, self-discovery, and believe it or not self-love. Taking the risk involves trusting yourself, setting goals, and believing in yourself enough to fulfill them. I had no crutches and had to force myself to get out of my own way. I’ve had to work really hard to overcome procrastination and to create a routine that produces results.
As I embark on my one-year anniversary as a full-time entrepreneur I am most grateful what I have learned about myself. I see the impact of my strengths and weaknesses and that realization alone has allowed me to identify tools to keep myself pushing forward. I wish I could say that in this year I scaled my business to a six-figure business but that would be lie. The truth is in this year I learned a lot, but most importantly I MADE IT! All my bills were paid on-time and and I was able to maintain my lifestyle. For me that is success and I look forward to applying what I learned and having an even better year of entrepreneurship.

Assata , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Assata Salim. I am an entrepreneur and consultant. My specialty is creative marketing and brand management. I’ve worked with artist, entertainers, attorneys, and small businesses. I am most proud of my current clients who were featured on Good Day Atlanta. This particular client wanted to expand their audience and grow their social media following. As a strategy I created an ambassador program, challenge based social media campaign, and public relations strategy that grew their audience and social media following in less than two-months. Each client is different and I love using creativity to solve business needs.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built an audience on social media by applying the following steps:
1. Identifying the community
2. Relating to the community
3. Creating content to answer questions for the community
4. Creating content that brings joy to the community
5. Creating content that engages the community
6. Creating content that the community will share to other like-minded individuals

Have you ever had to pivot?
As an entrepreneur you will often times have to pivot. Things that once worked have to be adjusted as the world continues to change around us. Staying open is key. I often spend much of my time persuading clients to maintain their dreams but to be open to adjustments a.k.a pivots to ensure we are making decisions that produce the most success. My business slogan is “Your dreams, our reality.” This means I will work hard to make my client’s dreams a reality, but never at the expense of quality. Essentially, if your dreams are going to interfere with the quality of our work together than I will facilitate a pivot that will push us towards a successful outcome.
