We recently connected with Alessandra Wortmann and have shared our conversation below.

Alessandra , appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

Rebranding was a big risk for us. Carrie’s Cakes has been in business for decades and even though I was trained and worked for Carrie, I wanted to bring something new that would incorporate both a clean and modern look. It was difficult to make that decision to change, but it has gotten such a great response and it has helped me to define my own brand.

Alessandra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I grew up in Brazil and I have wonderful memories of baking and cooking with my family. I think that is where my passion for baking started. Throughout the years, I kept the desire of learning by taking as many baking courses both nationally and internationally.

I started cake decorating in 2007 as a hobby and kept looking for more opportunities to learn. I then found Carrie from Carrie’s Cakes and I decided to invest in her classes. It was the best thing I could have done. Right after I finished her class, she invited me to join her team of decorators. It was a dream come true.

I worked with Carrie for 8 years before being given the opportunity to keep the business going as the owner. I just rebranded last year from Carrie’s Cakes by Alessandra to cake. It has been such a wonderful and sweet journey!

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?

Yes,I worked with the previous owner for 8 years before being given the opportunity to keep the business going as the owner myself. I love cakes and when the previous owner was ready to retire I wanted to keep going. The acquisition process was long due to building a full commercial kitchen inside our home. Everything took twice as long as we anticipated.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

We specialize in wedding cakes! We are well known for cakes that taste as good as they look. It has always been very important for me to learn and master many different cake styles and techniques so I can provide my customer with different options to best fit their vision.

We are well known for our simple designs as well as our show stopper masterpieces. We have won best of state since 2014 as best Event Cakes & Confections! We also won Utah’s taste of as best flavor cupcake in 2021.
