We were lucky to catch up with Chelsea Craig recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Before starting my own business I had managed an orthopedic practice and a regenerative medicine practice. Both we highly toxic and situations that left me feeling something was wrong with me. I have always known that I am here to serve people through my background of medicine as well as my childhood rooted in natural healthcare (juicing, smoothies, oils, organic – all the things cool and trendy now that weren’t cool or trendy 25 years ago), but couldn’t quite find “the fit”. After the regenerative medicine facility was shut down due to not following FDA rules/guidelines and illegal bookkeeping practices (which validated for me it wasn’t me that was wrong) I was left with a huge, “what do I do now?!”
As I said, my childhood was rooted in holistic healthcare. There was an essential oil for everything. My dad was great friends with Gary Young, and highly intuitive when it relates to the physical body. One night him and I really went spent hours recounting all the things him and Gary were able to do with the oils and energy work. It was beautiful to listen to his stories of miraculous healing. And then it clicked for me. My dad has had 3 near death experiences with each time he’s “crossed over” an angel has guided him back saying, “Your work here is not done yet.” I believe I AM his work. All of his experience were so that I could learn how do to now what I am doing. I soaked in all is knowledge and finally took it all to heart. So I put it out there. I took what he had been doing and decided to put it out to the world through my professional training. At that point I thought that was taking a big risk only to find out that was just the beginning.
I put it out to the Universe. I took the experiences and knowledge of my dad combined with my training and understanding of the physical body and medicine to create something completely new to serve women as the oils served me. I had struggle with fertility for years and used the oils to successfully conceive 2 healthy boys. What I came up with felt so “right” so in alignment, but how to execute this idea and where? Did I mention, before this point I had had 2 “failed” businesses of my own so going out on my own brought up so many past feeling of failure that starting another felt off the table. I reached out to friends in the community for interviews and opportunities to work with them. I interviewed 3 places: the 1st offered me job but I was done working for free, the 2nd gave me a hard no but offered some beautiful guidance of how to evolve what I had started, and the 3rd gave me a smack-in-the-face “absolutely not”.
So here I am knowing I have “something,” but the Universe not validating what I believe to be it. Like I said, the woman I had worked on for my 2nd interview had offered me some very beautiful advice. She told me, “This is not going to work this way. You have something here, and I can feel your magic, but this way will not work.” She recommended some videos and techniques to research. I flipped the whole thing on its head, integrated what I had learned in the videos, and there it was: Women’s Intuitive Bodywork. And then the real test of faith showed up.
I got another interview at a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice while simultaneously practicing this new technique with women in my home. I got a yes from the practice! They loved what I had created while at the same time things were really taking off within my home office. “Oh my goodness, I cannot start another business. Look how I failed before,” ran through my head constantly, and yet, my home office was booking weeks out. I asked the Universe for a sign of how I can best serve. I finally felt committed to my knowing, but completely lost in the “how”. I asked the Universe to show me the “how” and that very day the first client I served said, “I have been looking for something like this for years! I had a terrible experience at a Chinese Medicine practice here in town and have been searching for something like you since!” The sign was undeniable. I knew what I was being asked to do.
The next day I told the TCM practice I wouldn’t be working out of their space, and would be starting my own practice out of my home. I was taking the risk, trusting the Universe in beginning my own business and doing this work. This was the beginning of August 2019 and since that moment I have booked out almost every single appointment I have opened up to the community. Despite working out of my home, all the issues with COVID, and a plethora of other challenges, my commitment to this work has proven to be how the Universe is asking me to use my magic to serve and showed up for me in ways I could never imagine.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My first 2 businesses did not fail, but rather taught me so many crucial aspects to running a business. The thing missing was alignment. I was doing what I thought I was supposed to do and very much driven by success and money. Once I shifted my alignment to serving at the highest point possible and knowing I would be taken care of through love I have always been taken care of. I don’t search for clients or work I know they find me when they are ready. I continue to show up at my fullest expression of loving self.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That my childhood was also rooted in trauma and lack of love.
