We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rosha Lewis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rosha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Believing in your dreams and taking a chance on yourself, is always the biggest risk. Yet it is the most important one to take. When I first started to brand my business, I remember being shy about posting anything on social media, because at the time I was surrounded by a lot of nay-sayers. Here are a few things people would say: no one is going to pay you for that, you have a child you need to focus on something better, anybody can make that, what are you doing with your time, you have nothing to show. All that did was add fuel to my fire. I believe in me and that’s all I need. If there is something that you truly believe in, go for it! It was put in your mind and heart for a reason.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rosha, I’m a bartender and the owner of DOD (Drinks on Duty) a mobile bar service. Currently we are in Memphis, TN but do offer travelling services. We are well known for making our specialty drinks and dropping them off to your event. Sometimes you may not want or need a bartender, so this is an excellent option. The Ro’Rita and our Whiskey Brownies are highly recommended and are our clients’ favorites. For those that would like to learn about making cocktails and drinking safety we offer online and in-person sessions.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I love to learn as much as I can about my clients. I like to know about birthdays, graduations, anything that they are celebrating. Even things they are struggling with. I truly care about everyone I connect with, so my clients become my family. DOD has a strong village, and I am so thankful for them.
I love surprising my clients with something extra or special. Whatever I’m moved to do, I do it. This could be something as simple as sending them a quick email or text messages or surprising them with their favorite item. There are so many options in the world, and for someone to stop and decide to use my services that means so much to me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn a defeated mindset and learn how to set boundaries. For a long time, I was trapped in this never-ending cycle. I was working long hours at different jobs. Going over and beyond because I truly believed in what I was doing. I was sacrificing my family, my health, and my mental space. I convinced myself that this is what was needed to make it to the top. This is how I showed my loyalty and eventually someone would recognize my talent. But what I was doing was not setting any boundaries and I wasn’t standing up for myself. When a promotion would come around and I was looked over I would tell myself, “Oh well, I guess it’s not for me” and then I would be sad and depressed about it. Then I would work another job and repeat the same cycle. This allowed people to take advantage of my hard work and use me. I never set any boundaries with my employers or the friends & people I had around me.
I was able to overcome this but first, I had to love and be loyal to myself. No one can ever take away my talent and the knowledge that I have. God has already declared victory over my life, and I’ve already won. I’m destined for greatness. Through all my challenges I always show up and show out when it comes to the work I do. I’m Always On Duty. My journey has been a bumpy one, but it made me stronger and will help those that come after me.
