We were lucky to catch up with Christina Charron recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I was an esthetician at a local spa. I felt like I was holding myself back from what I truly wanted to do. I loved esthetics but really wanted to get into cosmetic tattooing. I had gone to a Look Good Feel Good class for cancer patients and assisted them in showing makeup techniques to help them feel better during their treatments. This was so rewarding to me. The look on these gals faces after just a few minutes was enough to tell me that this is a field that I would love to work in. About a week later I saw an opening for a tattoo apprenticeship at a local shop with a gal named Kelsey Vaca that I had been following for awhile. I jumped on that opportunity and started in on a 2 year apprenticeship to master the art of brows. There were plenty of bumps in the road and sometimes I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it but I did. Kelsey took me under her wing and helped me succeed in mastering brow artistry. We do continuous education by taking courses to keep up with the new and upcoming trends. I am loving every minute of my job. The smiles and confidence that my work gives to these women is the best part of my job
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been an esthetician for ten years and a cosmetic tattooist for 5 years. I specialize in eyebrows and tattoo removal. I think what sets me apart from others is my professionalism and sincerity. I want the best outcome for all of my clients. I want my clients to be as comfortable before during and after the procedure. I am proud to say that my clients are my friends. By the end of our session we are giggling like high school girls and chatting away like we have been friends for years. I absolutely love the women that I have met through out the years and enjoy hearing their stories. We are a tattoo shop of all women tattooists. We have a tight bond in our shop and you can feel the love as soon as you walk in the door.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most helpful tool in succeeding is believing in yourself and pushing yourself. There are always going to be times that you want to give up but you have to push through it. Set your goals and make sure you do everything you can to smash them. You got to work work work for those goals. They won’t be just handed to you. Wake up every morning with a positive mind set and goals to smash. Everyone else is not your competition. We call all succeed together.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Kelsey Vaca as a newbie coming into the business. I had been following her on social media and loved her work. From the day I started my apprenticeship with her I knew we had a connection. We got through the first 4 months of our apprenticeship and then suddenly our shop owner passed away. It was hard on all of us but especially for her. We stepped back for a few weeks. Once the shock of it all wore off we dusted off ourselves and got busy picking up the pieces. We cleaned up the shop and made it more personable. In that time we grew an amazing friendship and business relationship that has us both going strong and successful.
