We were lucky to catch up with Marissa Fuline and Casey Lemieux recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, ladies thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
We met in college and remained close friends for years after. We both made our way into the social media and marketing fields in our first jobs after college. Throughout the years, we both learned from the corporate world and small businesses and enhanced our skills, and we were always glad to have each other to bounce ideas off of since we were in the same field. Marissa had been collecting side clients for social media management, and Casey knew she was meant to help people understand social media, create a brand, and show up confident and excited. Casey invited Marissa to be a guest on her podcast, The Social Media Scoop, which was created at the time mostly to help local real estate agents. We had such a great time talking about social media together and trends in the industry. That episode got Casey thinking, what if they combined their skills and knowledge to create a business together? She knew she loved helping realtors but there were so many small businesses and entrepreneurs that could benefit from this advice! Casey called Marissa and said “You can totally say no, but do you want to start a business together?” That “yes” was the easiest of Marissa’s life and the two got to working on building their new business. Success was something that we both strived for, however, we knew this endeavor would not easily be done alone and that the combination of their knowledge, skills, and personality types was a recipe for success. They both had entrepreneurial parents to look up to and guide them throughout the initial steps of creating a business. We both agree that having a solid support system and community are huge building blocks of having a prosperous business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
We are both Ohio natives and graduates of Coastal Carolina University that now run The Scoop Creative in Columbus, Ohio. Upon graduating, we both dove into the fields of social media and marketing and realized our passion for the industry. The Scoop Creative aims to help businesses and entrepreneurs grow their brand through social media and brand strategy. Our main product is Social Media Management which helps business owners take back their time by allowing The Scoop team to either fully manage their social media for them or help them get started. The Scoop also offers strategy sessions that help clients to understand the value that social media can provide and actionable items to start growing ASAP. Other services consist of Custom Canva Templates, Custom Branded GIFs, and Custom Instagram Highlights and Profile SEO. The Scoop wants to solve any issue pertaining to social media and branding and to help educate clients on the ways in which social media can benefit their business. The Scoop prides itself on being able to provide custom content to their clients, clients will always receive a product that is unique to them and their business and will never have to worry about having cookie-cutter content. We both highly value our client relationships and always want to make sure they are fully satisfied.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
Have you ever been to a small business, restaurant, or local spot that you had the best experience/food/time but then you go to find them on social media to share about your time and you can’t find them? Or their accounts are dormant, poor quality, or confusing? This is what fueled our passion for helping these business owners understand the importance of showing up on social media and having a strategy! We especially focus on our local communities in Central Ohio to help give back to the people and places that mean so much to us! Our mission is to help these brands not only show up but to HAVE FUN doing it! Social media is about being social and for many business owners they are focused on running their business so marketing on social media takes a back seat. We help them save time by handling all the management and work directly with them to create ideas to re-inspire their passion for what they do and let that shine through their social media presence. They have worked so hard to create their business and we want to help show the world how amazing they are!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When starting an almost all online business, we were unsure exactly how to attract clients. In the beginning we focused on providing top quality service to just a handful of people. Well that handful of people ended up referring to us another handful of people and this has continued throughout time! The networks you build are your net worth! Referrals are so important because they are a testament to the hard work we put in and normally lead to very qualified leads. Consistently showing up on social media and in person at events and networking groups also help keep referrals coming through. Sharing our energy and passion in person with other professionals is what we love to do and have seen the most success from.
