We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luke Price a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Luke, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

In high school, I didn’t go to many football games! I had multiple jobs. Usually 2-3 at a time. I started my first business at 18 years old. I had just graduated, started college, and I was working as a server in a hometown restaurant. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for me to get Luke Price Studios off the ground and serving was the last job that I had.

So for the last four years I have gotten to taste what it is like to create my own work schedule, set my own salary, and not report to anyone but myself and my clients. I always knew being a self-employed business owner was the path for me. In high school I would get in trouble for being a few minutes late to class, and I was always being called to report to the office for this reason or that reason…. I told myself early in life that my first goal was to earn the ability to at least go where I wanted to go, do what I wanted to do, and do it whenever I wanted to do it!

Im still a long way from accomplishing that goal to the fullest extent of course! But Im very grateful and fortunate to be able to do the work that I do!

Luke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Luke Price and I started making videos when I was 16. I absolutely loved getting creative and learning more about cameras and computers. I got a job making videos for a Ford dealership when the general manager found some of my early short films on Youtube. That was my first client, and I was in business! If you fast forward to today, Luke Price Studios is a 5-person team of new age photographers & videographers! We do most all types of media but we are most known for shooting weddings! We love weddings because everyone is always happy, dressed up, and ready to celebrate the couple’s big day!! Our team is energetic, fun, and creative! We love to meet new people every week and help make their day a huge success!

Other services include professional headshots, family and senior portraits, business commercials, drone cinema, music videos, and more. We do a lot of work for colleges, hospitals, manufacturing companies, chambers of commerce, and other business. We were named Mississippi’s Best Wedding Photographer in 2020 by MS Magazine and have won Best Photographer by Readers Choice for three consecutive years. Our video team has been awarded titles from Magazines and have had music videos and short films go on to receive recognition and awards at festivals.

How’d you meet your business partner?

I like this question because it’s a fantastic story involving my lead photographer, Ramon Pineda. Ramon has helped build Luke Price Studios from day one! We have been great friends for over 6 years and I admired Ramon’s gift for photography when we were both in high school. When I started Luke Price Studios he agreed to join the team and be head of photography. He continues to be essential to growing the business and we have come a long way!

But you asked how we met… I think I was a junior in high school, and I was in downtown Corinth creating videos for my youtube channel. I had left a camera continuously recording outside of a store for some intro footage. Well… Ramon and his friends were out taking photos, and just so happened to walk by my camera. They waved and laughed jokingly into the lens and moved on by. I find the footage later while I was editing the video and thought it was funny so I posted the video. Maybe a week later Ramon messages me on instagram to say, “Hey man, my friend just sent me your youtube channel. I am the guy that walked by your camera last week!”

And from that one conversation starter, he and I began taking pictures and videos discussing photography and business! In 2018 I came back to him and asked him to join the team! So… when you think about the story that way… that high-school youtube video that started our friendship, may have the smartest video Ive ever made! Haha

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

I am a big fan of reading books, listening to audio books, taking online courses, and going to events and seminars. All of these are fantastic ways to get around like minded people, and learn some principals and skills to help you in life! I will list my top 5 favorite author and influential speakers that have helped get my career started.
