We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reno Houston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Reno, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Personally I knew the moment I learned what being a musician even was. I have been playing the drums my entire life thanks to my Dad so I have always had the urge to preform and make music. The band came togther around 2017 and once we all came together and started writing our own music we knew we wanted to make a career out of this!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are Pray for Sleep. We are a hard rock/metal band froom Columbus Ohio and started this band in 2017. Hayden (guitarist) and I (Reno-Drummer) met in late 2017 through a mutual friend and began to write music. From there Grant (Vocals) actually joined as our second guitarist and we began playing shows in 2018. We started big by playing Rock on The Range that year as our third show ever and continued to play locally and regionally after that. From there we released our debut album “Behind Our Eyes” in 2020 and began playing more, as well as recently playing Inkarceration this year with our new Bass player Stefan. We are now currently working on our new music which should be our very shortly with many more shows to come!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
We have a very serious outlook on mental health and it goes into everything we do. Our album was entirely written about many different mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, and even drug abuse. We have all been though our share of mental health battles and strive to help people with our music and have even partnered with Nationwide Childrens Hospital in the past to vet our lyrics so we can be sure to say what needs to be said without triggering a negative response from those who have similar experiences. Our new music has the same tone as the previous songs and deals a lot with mental health and it can be inferred through our lyrics.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Helping others and hearin their stories. Because of the theme of our bad we have met many people over the years who have said our music helped tem in some way and that means the world to us. We also have just made life long friends and fans through what we do and it is extremely rewarding to see them get better and succeed and just watch their journey right along with us. We have a lot of people to thank for wher we are today and where we are going in the future.
