We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Qureysh Basrai a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Qureysh, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Basically I have my own business, but due to Covid, the business had stopped completely, so i thought of re -staring my passion after a gap of 30 years, fortunately in the 2019, there was an online international art horse competition and my 1st competition after 30 years…!!!! and i had done 1 horse artwork so I decided to send that artwork for the competition, I was quiet shocked that I stood 1st in the competition among 10 countries, this boosted my energy and I thought that after a gap of 30 years also my art is being appreciated by people so I should pursue this professionally, thus my journey started and now I am a professional artist, spending almost 5 to 6 hrs daily painting, and have done a number of gallery shows since then and have won 11 national and international awards in art so far.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have already mentioned in the previous question as to how I got into this profession, I am a lover of nature and animals , thus all my artworks are related to nature and animals/ birds. I am a Horse specialist in art, I do realistic art work ,in only oil paint on canvas. All my artwork including landscapes are realistic, this I think sets me apart from others and I am proud to be known as a Horse Specialist .Many of my friends and followers look forward to see my artworks specially the horses.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
YES, my goal /mission is to be a famous artist not only in India but Internationally, in regards to Horse/ Camel/ Falcons and landscape paintings. Many of the art curators in India have started knowing me and my artworks.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, is when your art work is being appreciated by people, and they spread a word about your artwork to others. Selling an artwork in an exhibition also is a rewarding aspect for an artist. During an exhibition opening, an artist comes in touch with some high profile personality/ business tycoon , which also is a very rewarding aspect for an artist.
