We recently connected with Jessie & Jonny Casey and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessie & Jonny, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Our industry, in a corporate setting is known for taking in as many dogs at a time as they can, because they focus on quantity over quality. At Wüf, we only groom one dog at a time, much like a human hair salon and spa. Our goal is to ensure the dogs, and groomers are comfortable and safe during each appointment. Not rushing and shuffling through has given us the opportunity to produce quality work, which owners love.

Jessie & Jonny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We both got into the industry working in other salons, and seeing how they were ran gave us the idea to go off on our own and create a more relaxed environment where dogs can enjoy their spa day. As soon as owners drop off we get started, they don’t need to wait in a crate at all unless their owner is unavailable to pick them up. Having this one on one concept sets us apart, as most groomers will take in a bunch of pets at once and have them waiting in a crate to be started on. Our groomers are incredibly talented, they all take their craft seriously and continue education, which isn’t something that’s required in pet grooming. Some of our groomers also show their dogs in AKC, and compete in grooming competitions. We truly love what we do, and that alone makes a better work environment for the dogs and the groomers!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We love social media, it has been one of the best, free marketing tools available to us. It’s great because we get to use it in a fun way, and the owners love it too. We try to take photos of each dog that we groom, and their owners love seeing their picture on our page. Most of the time, their owner will share the photo of their dog freshly groomed and share it with all of their friends. Word of mouth has truly helped our business flourish!

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We actually met at Petsmart. Jonny was the salon manager there, and I was just headed into their grooming academy program. Jonny helped push me to get there, and after we both left the company we ended up reconnecting and started a family some years later. We worked together at a boarding facility that offers grooming, and ended up finally starting Wüf. We can’t wait for our kids (3 and 4 years old) to start learning the trade as well!
