We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Angel W. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Starting a photography business is full of highs and lows. It seems like such a simple creative business to start, buy the equipment, find the client, make the money, but as you find your niche and passion you soon realize that photography holds so much more importance than most people realize. You start to think about the “why” behind your passion. As a Boudoir Photographer my goal was to capture beautiful portraits of beautiful women, seems simple enough. Now almost 10 years into my business, I realize that what I am doing is so much more than that. Now photography is just the vehicle for my message of self love. My calling is to help women heal from traumas put on them from other people, society, and themselves. I hope that one day, when I am not gracing this world with my presence, the world remembers my legacy as one that helped women save themselves. I give myself to my clients in a way that only those who have had a session with me can understand. When a woman comes to have a boudoir session with me, I listen to their fears, their experiences, the pain they have felt or are currently feeling, all of the things that make them feel less than, and I flip that negative energy on its head. I take the pressure off and just let them be themselves. I can tell a woman how beautiful she truly is all day and she ever wont feel it, but I can take my camera lens and literally show them. They can see it with their own eyes, making me the catalyst that changes the way she views herself and speaks about herself for the rest of her life. My clients turn into their own personal super models and posing queens by the end of their session. From insecure to self confident, instantly.
It’s been wonderful to see hundreds of women change in such a beautiful way, all within a couple of hours. Getting to witness this over and over again is such a privilege. I hope my legacy is carried through every woman I work with and I hope they pass it to every woman they know. Changing the world, one woman at a time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I became a Boudoir Photographer due to a lack of creative outlets. I was a theatre kid in high school, wanted to act when I graduated, found a love for writing and directing in my early 20s and decided to attend North Carolina State University for Film Studies, as much as I loved my program, I couldn’t justify spending so much on a degree that I wasn’t sure how I was going to use, so I got a camera and the rest is history! Like most photographers, I shot everything I could get my hands on, but I was hooked after my first successful boudoir session. I proudly stepped out on a limb and specialized and I am so happy I did! Now boudoir is a widely accepted form of photography and I am at the top of my game! Being a boudoir photographer is a privilege! I help women find love for themselves and I help them remember who they truly are at their core. Im proud of the impact my creative work has had on so many women and I am so excited to help many more.
Nine19 Photography is about empowering women to love and celebrate themselves and the entire journey of womanhood. My specialty is intimate storytelling through boudoir and other feminine forms of photography. I believe in embracing your confidence, sensuality, sexuality, and feminine divinity. The foundation of my business is in inclusivity and the belief that every human deserves to feel good in their own skin.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Stop discounting your work! Every time you discount your work, whether it’s a sale or mini sessions etc, you are devaluing your expertise. Your clients will find you and will pay you the amount that you are worth. When you move away from a scarcity mindset, you and your business will grow. For instance, If you need a quick influx of income instead of packing 15 clients into a day and giving them mediocre service for mini sessions, host a luxurious day for one or two valuable clients where you charge more, but you give them more than your normal session! It’s little things like this that will add value to you and your brand!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I realize that the easiest way to build your reputation and brand is to be yourself. I know my brand in and out, because I know me. My reputation exist because my brand’s reputation is my reputation as well!
