We were lucky to catch up with Nickolas, Jessica, & Landon Folmar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nickolas, Jessica, & Landon, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
When you shop for a home service such as Carpet Cleaning, you have a choice in working with a family-owned company vs a corporate one. There are many advantages to working with a family business, and the main one is Quality. Corporations usually offer large discounts, but in order to do this they sacrifice quality. A family owned business owner takes pride in Quality and making a difference in their community. When you work with a family business there is a story behind their name rather than anonymous shareholders. They are your friends and neighbors and want you to be happy with your experience.
Nickolas, Jessica, & Landon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Jet Stream Clean is a family business ran by Nickolas Folmar (Founder and Owner/Operator,) Jessica Folmar (Owner and Director of Marketing), and Landon (Director of Operations). We offer commercial and residential carpet, tile, and upholstery cleaning services in the Chattahoochee Valley. Our truck mounted carpet cleaning system, state of the art techniques, and technology systems provide the ultimate cleaning experience to our customers.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When COVID-19 hit, we were in a panic. Nickolas was suddenly let go from his job and we had no backup plan. We had bills to pay and could not wait months for unemployment. He had always worked in the cleaning sector and dreamed about opening his own carpet cleaning business. We thought how can we survive during this time, when business that we thought were secure went under. We decided to take our survival skills to the next level and take a chance on the business. We emptied our whole savings into a used carpet cleaning rig and hit the ground running. We focused on creating the ultimate cleaning experience for our customers and maintained high quality. Within months we were able to buy a brand new carpet cleaning rig to maximize results. We have made it to 2 years in business now, and have won numerous awards in our local area for being the preferred carpet cleaner and cleaning service.. Our story of opening a small business during the Great Resignation Movement was even featured on CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is constantly changing and you have to be open to evolving. My best advice would be, don’t put all your eggs into one basket! There are various platforms to establish your business’s online presence for free such as a Google business page, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Yelp. Some of these platforms give you an option to run ads, but if you consistently post and have great reviews, the algorithm will push you to the top eventually. Focus on your niche and build content that you feel your customers could relate to and actually want to watch. Then you have to be consistent! Use online planners to set up your social media postings to post as frequently as you want.
