We recently connected with De’Brittney Lawrence and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, De’Brittney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I named my business after myself. When I graduated Cosmetology school in 2011 I would work from home. Part time. The first name I had was DbsPlace. As time went along and I moved into a suite I changed my name to DB’s Hair Studio. After two years I Changed it again to DB’s Hair Salon.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is De’Brittney! My hair journey began as a teenager styling family and friends’ hair. It was later, 2011 that I attended cosmetology school in Stone Mountain, GA. I obtained my license in Master Cosmetology, awarded “Most Likely to Succeed” and graduated first amongst my class. I continued throughout my hair journey while working numerous jobs. Throughout 2018 I began to expand my brand as I started my Hair Collection selling a variety of Virgin Hair on several platforms. In November of 2019, I opened my first Hair Studio in Conyers, GA. Where I specialize in Ponytails! I continue to embody what creativity and professionalism is!I always knew I was destined to be my own boss. I am the owner and operator of DB’s Hair Salon, the example for girls to LEAD, and follow their dreams.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my business is great customer service. Showing up for myself and others. Most important staying consistent with marketing on social media.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn was to be patient. For years I wanted to do hair..I thought building clientele was by far the hardest thing for me to do. So I would always work a job. When I started my last job I told myself “I’m not working here too long”. My plan was to get a suite and start working on my clientele. When I first moved into my suite I was still working a job and my schedule wasn’t stable so I wasn’t able to work as a hairstylist or taking my business as serious as I should have. I knew I wanted to do hair. I was trying everything and nothing was working at the time. So I continued to work. Along the way life happened and Covid-19 began. We were all home that’s when I began to plan again and pray. During this time God sent me an ultimatum. He gave me a career position at my job and he also gave me the business idea to be a Ponytail Stylist. I chose to be a Ponytail Stylist and when I say it’s the Best job I’ve ever had. Women come to me from all over. With me saying all of that. I have now learned to be patient with everything within my life, because now I know that there’s a time for everything and everyone.
