We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gaea Kassatly. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gaea below.
Gaea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I started a successful business with a group of friends my senior year of college. Long story short, when our relationship ended so did my interest in the business. As a young entrepreneur, I did not realize the importance of legal protections. After this experience I decided to become the attorney for entrepreneurs so that I can help them avoid the same legal pitfalls. Once I became that attorney, I learned very quickly how antiquated law firms are: Lack of diversity in general but especially in leadership, resistance to technology, workplace politics based on external factors like your attire, no work life balance, and wage gaps. I did not want this for myself or any other attorney. So I started GK Law Co.: a law firm that adds value to our clients AND our own legal staff.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder and managing attorney at GK Law Co., a woman-owned virtual law firm. We act as general counsel (aka the legal department) for startups all over the country. Our clients range from Web3 to Martech to Healthtech startups. As general counsel, we help advise clients on how to protect their business from inception to exit. Some of the ways we advise and protect startups is through incorporation, intellectual property rights, reviewing and drafting strong contracts, advising on HR issues, and conducting legal research in highly regulated areas like healthcare and securities.
I’m also a serial entrepreneur, starting as early as 12 years old! I get it from my grandpa. In fact, everyone at GK Law Co. is or has been an entrepreneur at some point. We really appreciate what it takes to make it as an entrepreneur and are extremely passionate about helping entrepreneurs protect their hard work. I love feeling like I’m part of my client’s team and watching their business blossom. One of my favorite memories was celebrating with my client when they obtained $5m in funding their first round and again when they reached 50 employees!
I also really love to travel and experience different cultures. I’m so grateful for my law firm, because it allows me to travel as much as I want while still allowing me to be an asset to my firm and clients. A few months ago, I represented a client in a high 6-figure merger and acquisition and later that afternoon I went scuba diving in Costa Rica. I have been to over 12 countries so far and I am a certified scuba diver!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
If you are in the service industry and you have a limited marketing budget like I did, the best source of new clients is current clients. The way to tap into this source of new clientele is simply by providing excellent service to your existing clientele. Even as my marketing budget grew and I implemented new marketing strategies, like social media and SEO, referrals remain my biggest source of new clients.
At GK Law Co. our values are aligned with this type of referral-based marketing: We value integrity, transparency, dedication to excellence, and relationships. In other words, all of our values align with providing our clients with an excellent experience.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
To be a successful entrepreneur is to be resilient and adaptable. Looking back, there were so many moments I could have given up and almost did. Believe it or not, one of those moments was getting accepted into law school. I had a hard time getting accepted into law school because of my poor undergraduate performance (another story!). I received so many denials. Instead of giving up, I changed my mind set. I said to myself that a denial just means I need to find another way to accomplish my end goal. The law school advisors told me I needed to find a way to compensate for my undergraduate performance and that’s exactly what I did. I worked with a tutor to get the highest LSAT score possible, made my resume competitive by taking a couple of years to work as an executive at a Fortune 50 company, volunteered with various organizations, and finally, I started a book club that would reach over 1,000 members to hold myself accountable to becoming an excellent reader. I was accepted into law school on scholarship and would later graduate magna cum laude.
