We were lucky to catch up with Lo Jordan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My personal mission is to embody self love. I enjoy uplifting my clients and bringing out their best selves by increasing their confidence. This is close to my heart because I struggled with loving myself for such a long a time in many aspects, not just one. I never took the time out to ask myself, “What do you need?” My battle with acne seemed never-ending; I tried Proactive, all natural products, drug store products, nothing worked. On top of loathing my body image, my self confidence was diminished. However, I took control and changed how I looked at life and how I felt, it’s a look of inner/self-work. I started eating better, I got a better job where I was introduced to professional products and skin treatments. I started working out, mediating, stretching and getting to really know and be comfortable with my body. My business is not only about skincare, but also self love. Because when you love yourself, you feel better, always. I take pride knowing that when a client leaves, they’ll feel better, even if it’s just an ounce. Whether I help them relax, answer their questions about home care, improve their current skin condition, etc. I know they had a positive experience. That is what truly warms my heart.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never knew exactly what I wanted to be growing up. I was good at school and made good grades but I didn’t think I had a specific talent. This followed me into college, which is why my Associates Degree is in General Studies. I knew I wanted to be a business owner, but had no idea where I should specialize. I got a job at a spa and was introduced to professional skin care products/treatments and I fell in love! It was amazing watching my skin improve. After working my way up the ladder and becoming assistant clinic administrator, I realized I was no longer passionate about my job. I despised going to work because of how stressful it became. I knew it was time for a change, I wanted to focus on building my own brand instead of pouring 40+ hours into someone else’s. I took a leap of faith, declined the top administrator position, dropped down to part time and enrolled in esthetics school. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made, as soon as I sat down for theory, I knew this is what I wanted to do. While in school I worked on my business plan and by the time I graduated luckily there was a suite space graciously offered to me, everything started to fall into place, little by little.
I currently offered customized skin treatments, chemical peels, dermaplane, microneedling, microdermabrasion, and waxing. I strive for my clients overall health and wellness. We talk about current skin care regiments, diet, stress, skin care concerns and goals, recommended skin care products and treatment plans. My goal is not be a one-and-done business; I do not wish to squeeze as many one-time facials appointments into my schedule to make the most money. My goal is to build relationships with my clients, I want them to be comfortable with me, their treatment plan and their enviroment. This is why I provide extra time in slots to account for pre and post consultations. Whether their goal is skin correction or “me-time” to relax, I want to exceed their expectations.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
They say the best form of advertising is word of mouth, and they are right! I’ve gotten many clients from referrals and I get so elated when I hear this! I periodicaly offer specials where referrals will receive $20 off their next service or new clients receive $10 off their first service. I offer loyalty cards, on the 5th service clients are granted 20% off the service of their choice. Also, many of my clients come from instagram hashtags, every so often I’ll do a paid promotion on a really good skin transformation and my followers always increase when I do that.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I initially started the position at the spa, I almost left. I liked the job- I was coming from serving and wanted a steady income-and I enjoyed working with the other front desk associates. However, I needed to make more money. I went to my manager, explained that I liked my job and wanted to stay but I would have to put in my two weeks because I needed better income. A couple days later she pulled me into her office and informed me that she and another manager created a position for me to stay with better hours and more pay! I was ecstatic and thankful I communicated how I felt and what I needed because in return I got my ideal job at the time. Closed mouths do not get fed!
