We were lucky to catch up with Tanya Rice-Berry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tanya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I never would have thought I would be in the career I am in now. I always knew I wanted to help people. I wanted to be a labor and delivery RN. This was years ago and then I felt I didn’t have the stomach or nerves to be a nurse so I went to school for medical billing and insurance coding which was right up my ally. I enjoyed this career and working behind a desk , headsets on talking with different insurance companies. I did this for 7 years. Unfortunately I became bored and missed the hands on part of working out in the field. Once I had my youngest son who was diagnosed with Autism when he was 2/5 years old. I decided to walk away from my 9-5 job and volunteer at my son’s school to be his advocate and protector while we navigated through this journey. I was at the school so much I was offered a job. Guess what I have been in childcare and working with children ever since this year makes 10years now. The risk I took was for the love I have for my son, all my children. I pulled my last 3 children out of traditional school and decided to homeschool them. I did this in 2012. My son changed my whole path and view on life. Now teaching children is my passion!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is to have people reach out to me and ask me to recommend a restaurant, or ask for gardening advice. Having a restaurant invite me to their soft opening as a special guest. Foodies are on the rise. Business owners are now looking to content creators like myself to do their marketing.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation within this market is my honesty. I’m reliable and my word is my bond.
