We recently connected with Sylvia Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Sylvia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you ever seen (or implemented) a really awesome way to show a client you appreciate them
It is said that the biggest purchase we’ll ever make is buying a home. And for most of us, the preparation involved isn’t easy. Working on your credit score, landing that steady job that will get you the house in the price range you want and saving up for a Down Payment and Closing Costs takes a lot of time, energy and focus.
I’m not just a Realtor, I’m a homeowner as well. So I know what it’s like to go through the effort of purchasing a home. That’s why I ALWAYS shower my clients with love and luxury gifts during Closing. I often get flack from other Realtors for giving luxury Gift Baskets to my clients but for me, it’s not only a way to show them that I appreciate them but it’s a way to recognize and acknowledge the fact that their hard work has officially paid off! Which is no small feat.
I love seeing the look on my clients face on Closing Day when they walk into the room at the Title Company and see their luxury Gift Basket sitting there waiting on them. I make sure each Gift Basket is tailored to my clients which really does make them feel special and appreciated. Buying a home is cause for celebration. And I make sure that on Closing Day, we celebrate!
Sylvia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My brand and practice is based on one thing: Transparency. Unfortunately we live in a world that is filled with uncertainty. That is why I am always upfront, honest and transparent with my clients. I have those tough conversations with them in the very beginning because I believe in setting clear and realistic expectations.
I’m in the trenches with my clients from beginning, middle, end and beyond! Even after closing on their home, if they need me, I’m always there! It may sound completely corny but I truly believe in treating people how you want to be treated. I live by that and I operate my business by that.
For me, it’s not about the money, it’s about the relationship that I build with my clients!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When you first get your Real Estate License you’ll likely hear people say, “Start with your Sphere of Influence” when it comes to looking for clients. Well, some of us don’t have a large family and/or friend database to market to and get client referrals from. That’s where Social Media comes in. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram really bridge the gap for Realtors who don’t have a large Sphere of Influence.
When you’re starting your career as a Realtor make sure you give a lot of thought into who you are and what your message is. Also what you want your brand to look like. Working with a Professional Photographer is the first step in getting your visual brand together. From there, websites like Esty, can help you pinpoint your content style when it comes to creating posts.
Once you have your visual brand and content style figured out make sure you post consistently. Boosting posts and doing “Page Like” ads is a great way to get your profile and content out there. The algorithm is always changing so don’t stress about that. Just keep focusing on being consistent.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The one thing that has helped me build my reputation within Real Estate is the fact that I am just being ME. I often see Realtors copy and mimic other Realtors who are more successful. It never works because it’s not genuine and people can see straight through it. I’ve built my reputation on me just being me.
