We recently connected with Adam Dixon and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission the drives your brand?
The Adam Dixon Perseverance Foundation is a nonprofit outpatient treatment center dedicated to inspiring positive development in the lives of at-risk youth and adults in Maricopa, Gila River, Pinal Counties. We work to empower children and adults with emotional and behavioral issues to break through their challenges.
I think the mission is simple. We’re trying to level out the playing field with our youth that are underserved.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started The ADPF back in 2017 after my football career ended. I felt that it would be a major injustice not to give back to the youth and others that have instilled so much into me and my own journey. I wanted to give back and try to help level out the playing field. Growing up in the inner city some of our opportunities are limited compared to others that live in different parts of town. I think a lot of those missed opportunities come from lack of resources and just being wrote off just because you’re from a community that might not be the best.
We wanted to help our youth receive some of those opportunities and get some exposure to something different that can open their minds and ideas.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Definitely just dealing with my injuries with my football career. Coaches bringing in different players to take my position and yet, I still stood tall and won the battles despite being injured and having to deal with the competition. In business, Covid definitely put some constraints and how I needed pivot my organization. A lot of tough conversations and decisions had to happen for us to stay alive and continue to serve others.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I definitely feel that football gave me a platform to help build my reputation within the community and market.
