We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Olivia Gilling. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Olivia below.
Hi Olivia, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that I have worked on would have to be my latest book, especially with it coinciding with the foundation of my project called Liv’s Journey, which encourages people to never give up on anything no matter the roadblocks.
Olivia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Holistically, my push and drive to speak to people at different events, and publish my book all came from my life experiences. I survived an almost fatal car crash that left me disabled for a period of time, but with faith, drive, and tenacity, I overcame and used my pain for the purpose that was meant to take place. That place of pain later on turned me into an author and a speaker today.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I remember when I just started the writing process of the book and at this time, I also began taking myself seriously as who I knew I was, which would be the overall creative that didn’t fit in one specific box. As I began the process, I became randomly ill and had to be hospitalized and of course that took a hit on my drive and momentum. It was one of those moments as a creative or just human in general where you feel like you take 10 steps ahead and then about 50 backwards, but I knew that the project that I had within me was bigger than this roadblock. I believed in the product and the vision that I had and I aimed to get it out there no matter what, and that’s exactly what I did. Your drive and belief in yourself and the work you put out will always come to fruition in the end, no matter what the setbacks entail of.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is the people that you meet and impact along the way. One of the biggest eye openers and driving forces on my road to being a creative would have to be when people recite back to me something I said either in a video, speaking engagement, or from my book, and that alone makes me realize that people are listening and receiving!! As a creative you don’t want to feel like whatever you’re putting out is a waste, but instead we’re hoping that it’s effective and impressionable to our consumers, and once I realized that it was, it pushed me to embrace the creative that I was and to work even harder.
