Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennymelva Moral. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennymelva , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
There were definitely a lot of bumps & setbacks on the road for me. There were some self-doubts about resigning from my full-time job at the University of San Diego. Having worked there for about 5 years. It was learning to trust the outcome of my business and start taking steps to make it happen.
Some of the struggles were learning to set boundaries with others. Finding what direction to take for my practice and business as a collective. I was lucky enough to find people that I trusted and knew who shared the same values and beliefs as I did for this practice and wellness collective business. Despite the bumps in the road, One advice I’d give to others who would like to open a wellness business is to keep doing what you love. I opened up my business 1 month before Covid happened and I continued and my team continued teaching and held sessions via zoom online. We continued our business through the pandemic and 3 years later we are still in business and thriving. So despite any challenges and setbacks. Keep doing what you love and find other creative, alternative ways to still continue your practice and business. We have many resources out there now and I am very grateful for the struggles as they’re our best lessons in life. I will continue to learn and grow through the process.
Jennymelva , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Jennymelva has struggled with trauma from childhood through adulthood which led her to embark on a spiritual awakening journey. Her self-healing journey began in 2006 when she first organized an all-girls support circle at school. She discovered how this became a way for herself and others as a way to self-heal. As well as a way to empower one another on their life journey. In 2008, Jennymelva started volunteering in non-profit organizations and has helped organize adoption awareness dinners, food and clothes donations and raise awareness of issues that meant so much to her. In 2015, she became a single mother of 2 children and went through grief, pain and depression at which she had no choice that deep inner healing had to take place. That is when self-discovery and deep healing work began. She achieved this by releasing limiting beliefs, understanding shadow work and learning to reprogram her subconscious mind. Jennymelva’s self-reflection helped her deepen her self-love and self-worthiness which has awakened the divine within her. Jennymelva trained with knowledgeable teachers and had mentors who helped guide her. It was then that she decided she would open a space for others for transformational healing. As well as gathering a community that also wanted to participate in doing humanity work with nonprofit organizations.
Jennymelva is a Certified Usui Reiki Energy Therapy Master Teacher, Yin Yoga Instructor, Plant + Flower Essence Practitioner and the owner of Jane + James Apothecary and Shop. She is the Founder of The Sun & her Moon Collective. Her intention is to work with other beings with an open heart and open mind to honor their soul’s purpose. She is always continuing to learn new ways to support others through their personal growth. Her mission is to provide and create space for alternative ways to heal the mind, body and spirit along with embodying your highest self. She supports holistic health and natural medicine. Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I found Maci Ousset, the co-founder of The Sun and her Moon Collective, who was also passionate about self-healing, plant medicine, nutrition and alternative wellness. I had randomly met Maci through a friend of a friend at an Oktoberfest celebration. I did not intend to go to the event but my sister persuaded me. Maci and I shared a wonderful conversation regarding our big dreams to help others. We had so much in common and felt very strong about mental and physical health. In the months following, and as I was starting to put my business plan into action, I regretted not getting her contact information because I felt we shared the same purpose—to help others heal themselves. Then we ended up walking into the same studio for our Yin Yoga Teacher Training. That is when The Sun and her Moon Collective really started to form. We started to put the business and practice into action.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I feel that it is important to be open-minded when you first start your practice/business. It’s important to not let your ego get in the way or control how the outcome will turn out. my kids and I had bought a groupon for a day at the “Childrens Nature Retreat Foundation” When we went to check it out. I thought to myself how great would it be if we had retreats here. When we walked around we met some of the workers and one of the workers gave me a brochure. When I got home I thought to myself, “Why not contact the owner?” So I emailed her and told her how that the foundation was so serene and the environment was so peaceful to be around all these animals. I told her what I did and that if she would ever be open to collaborate with us. 2 days later I received an email from her and she was open to it. This collaboration happened to be the most important part of our practice journey. We ended up having a retreat and being featured on 2 news (FOX & KUSI) segments promoting the event. That helped build our reputation within our market. Little did we know, the founder had built a wellness center in a private area on the sanctuary. She also believed in the same values as we did. Keeping your ego out and being open-minded can lead to big opportunities.
