We recently connected with Deborah Mosher and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Deborah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Starting my business was a risk or better said a leap of faith for me. In 2012 a chapter in my life ended and a new chapter began. For twenty six years I dedicated my life to being a wife and stay at home mom of six children. Unfortunately, my marriage ended in 2012. Being a Christian, I asked God for direction. Starting over in your 50’s and being a stay at home mom was a challenge. I continued seeking God in prayer. Without a doubt, God answered my prayers in his timing! I began volunteering as a clown twisting balloons but that ended due to a latex allergy. Later on, I volunteered at many charity events with my giant bubbles. As time went on, my ministry became a ministry/business. So the “taking a risk” or “leap of faith” for me was to believe God had a purpose for me. I did that first, by asking him for direction and then following the passion he put into my heart. The passion he put into my heart was to bring joy to sick children and people who need joy in their life. I call this passion “overflow” of joy and love. In 2021 I created a Christmas costume and named it “Overflow 2021 into 2022”. This costume represents the “overflow of joy and love” in my business/ministry. Today, I travel all over Georgia entertaining at large city events with my giant bubbles and bubble station. I’m so thankful to God for all the doors of opportunity he has given me in this business/ministry.
Deborah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What sets me apart from other entertainers is my passion to bring joy to others. I bring this joy to city events with my giant bubbles and costumes I’ve created. I’ve added a bubble station to my entertainment, My bubble station was created in 2017 when I was volunteering at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. I created a special bubble wand and named it “Little Dipper”. I created this so the children could make their own MEDIUM size bubbles inside the hospital on rainy or cold days. Later on, I incorporated this bubble station into my private and city events. This has been a huge hit with the families! I encourage adults to have fun with the bubbles and they love it perhaps more than the children. Creating their own bubbles with my special wands is fun and they say it’s good therapy! My costumes are detailed and take up a lot of my time. I’m usually under a time crunch because of my busy schedule. The biggest challenge with my costumes is the weight of the costume. . Most of my costumes I wear are very heavy. I love entertaining with bubbles, creating costumes, and interacting with families and this is what sets me apart from other entertainers.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A story I would like to share is my journey going through the pandemic of 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic made world history. It was a time when the whole world seemed to be frozen in time. It was so sad to see so many people die. Many businesses were lost due to the pandemic. I lost all my large booked events in 2020 and it was a slow start into 2021. I was thankful for all my small private bookings. Since I entertained at large events they were the first to shut down and the last to start back because of large crowd gatherings. Through all this I had to trust God would provide and he did. So I would like to encourage all new business owners when the tough times come trust in God to help you through it. My faith in God is what makes me resilient in hard times.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Reputation was a big deal when I was growing up. I was brought up to do the right thing, be honest, treat others with respect, be kind to everyone, do a good job, and work hard. I’m so thankful my mom taught us all these qualities and she was a great role model for each one of these characteristics. It’s so important to me to be on time, be kind to others, encourage someone when I can, and give 100 percent in everything I do provides a good reputation in my life and business.
