We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miranda Richey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Miranda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Art as a form of therapy has always been meaningful to me; as of late, utilizing photography to bring a positive impact on mental health has been one of the concepts I’ve been able to explore and partake in with my inspiring clients. One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on was a portrait photography project for a client who had surmounted open heart surgery at a young age and it was difficult to feel like herself with a surgical scar. There comes a point where we go through traumatic events and it’s hard to get back to ourselves, especially as women; to be content and find joy and peace within ourselves. So for this personal photo project, I really wanted to create a comforting space where she could reclaim that beauty with her scar, a golden line on a stunning piece of art. Her photo reveal was cathartic; and, it was just especially fulfilling to help someone with their healing process through a love of mine, art.
Miranda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Creating has always been a part of my life. I am a multi-passionate creative with a heart for photography. My brand, Adnarim93 Creative is a reflection of this, an open creative space, with photography being the main service. When I was gifted a camera for a European tour, I didn’t put it down. My work is driven by an exploration of art and incorporating them in one creative space, supported by values of imaginative curiosity, beauty, joy, and serenity. I enjoy creating and making art for others. My photography styles include fine art, boudoir, contemporary, travel, and wildlife. I offered a range of photo print products including custom albums, wall art, and special prints. Some accomplishments I’m proud of from my work, include portrait awards with The Portrait Masters Award & Accreditation and assorted wildlife publications.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When I decided to pursue being creative with my main medium as photography, I wasn’t as familiar with mentorship. There was YouTube, and other learning resources by media giants, but at the time, when thinking about resources to hone my work and get my business off the ground, mentorship did not come to mind or was as widely talked about. Having a mentor for not only the business side but the craft side as well would have saved me having to learn some lessons the long way.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
As I mentioned earlier, my brand, Adnarim93 Creative is an open creative space. In addition to photography, I also offer creative services such as web design and book editing on a project basis. This allows me to keep those creative juices flowing and stay inspired while still being of service.
