We recently connected with Lacita & Laquinda Moody and have shared our conversation below.
Lacita & Laquinda , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
At jobs, everyone is replaceable. As a result we learned how to make ourselves valuable and hard to replace. It is important to prove yourself which often requires a certain level of commitment to the project or work task. The same is true for entrepreneurship. You have to dedicate that same time and energy to yourself because there will be no one to stay on you to get tasks completed. You have to be a self-motivator. At every job we had we were dependable. We look at our entrepreneurship journey in the same manner.
Lacita & Laquinda , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are two sisters who like to create lifestyle, travel, and beauty content for our supporters. We launched our brand back in 2019 because we wanted to share our talents with the world. We figured the best way would be for us to develop a platform on Instagram and Youtube. People we knew would always ask us for our beauty tips and we thought it would be a good idea to make it easily accessible to everyone via social media. Through our content, we are able to provide our audience with certain lifestyle aspects of our life especially our local and travel outings. We also provide our audience with beauty content such as makeup tutorials, hair videos, product recommendations, and past event vlogs/blogs. We are unique in that we bring our own style and authenticity. Others have complimented us for NOT niching down, but instead offering a multitude of content that serves various members of our audience. We do the things that we actually enjoy and people appreciate that we don’t try to ‘sell’ them.
We are most proud of simply making it this far. The road wasn’t easy and it still isn’t but after three years we are still here and still creating content. We truly enjoy doing this type of work. It’s also a great feeling when companies and publications reach out to us because they ran across our content and found something they could relate to. We would like our followers to know that it is okay to live your life and be exactly who you are. It’s imperative that people don’t allow others to tell them who they ‘should’ be. The right people will find you if you are true to yourself. Also, remember why you started when things do get tough. This will propel you to keep going. That’s how we have grown our brand. We simply operate from an authentic space.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can do so much to support its creatives. First, people should understand that content creation is a business that takes time, money, and effort. Sometimes people view content creation as all fun but involving little work. They struggle to view it as being a real job or they think that if it is a job it is an easy job. We hope that people become more aware that if you have friends and family that are in content creation it is free to support them and their content. Likes, shares, and engagement go a long way to support creatives. In the same way that people can acknowledge macro creators in content creation, it is equally important to validate and acknowledge the hard work of nano creators. In the beginning, nano creators have more expenses than reward and every bit of support helps.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
There is this expectation that once you enter the world of content creation, the support will come automatically. That couldn’t be furthest from the truth. For us personally, we felt that we would get more support from the people we already knew. We had to quickly develop a new mindset and understand that support comes slow, especially from those closest to you. Oftentimes, your biggest supporters will be from people you have never actually met.
If you have exciting news that you consider to be an accomplishment and others don’t react in the way that you feel they should; it is still an accomplishment. Don’t let others’ lack of reaction take away your positive feelings about that particular moment!
