Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kellsie Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kellsie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Part of me of course wishes that I had started my creative career earlier, earning money from creating things that I’m passionate about, versus the dozens of jobs I’ve had in my life where it was trading a sometimes rather miserable time, for often times very little money. However, I don’t think that I could be where I am now without having had every one of those experiences. Our life shape us along the way so that we can get to the next phase, go through the next evolution of ourselves. The steps along our path create the next available opportunity, and skill, wisdom, relationship etc. that can bring us to point B. I don’t think you can get to point B without going through point A first. As much as I would love to have skipped some of my more painful learning experiences, if I look back and reflect on what’s happened, I realize there really is something in each memory that has shaped or helped me on this journey to get me to where I am now and without those steps there’s a very likely chance that I would not have arrived at the destination I’m at now. Maybe some people can skip that, but I don’t think I could have. I’m just so grateful though that I’ve used my learning experiences as wisely as I can to seek out opportunities and then grab hold of them when they become available to me. We don’t take action like that unless we have some belief in ourselves, of a purpose, or a dream, and sense of knowing that it’s because we soufully want it, it means it’s meant for us and we become willing to actually go after it. Regardless, I don’t have the ability to go back in time and do things differently anyway, so I might as well just be grateful for everything that’s brought me here and look forward to what comes next.
Kellsie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello there! I’m Kellsie Moore and I do a variety of things and provide a few different services. I don’t ever want to be just one thing, practicing one skill all day everyday for the rest of my life. I started my adult career working in a correctional facility because I had volunteered with them in college and found it fascinating. After a few years though, it ate away at my spirit and drastically muted my personality.I eventually discovered personal development and began teaching myself new skills. I became certified in life coaching, meditation and a few other things; I took several courses on how to become a digital marketer and online entrepreneur. I learned how to build websites, online courses, marketing funnels, run online ads, social media and so much more. I also decided to follow my lifelong dream of being an actor and I went to a local indie film audition. I ended up booking the lead role and fell in love with it. BI became a signed, professional actress in a couple of regions and get to enjoy working on some cool projects sometimes, and am currently writing my own screenplay.
Eventually I took the skills as a coach, online entrepreneur and an actor and I became the video presence coach for Business Leaders. However, I always told myself that once I made “X” amount of money, I would start dedicating more time to another passion of mine, painting. But during 2021, I found myself adjusting the way that I spent my time, and I decided now was a great time to start painting more. I took a couple of classes growing up in school, but am primarily self-taught. I’m greatly inspired by Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, Monet, I love painting in post-impressionist and abstract style. I decided to believe in myself and apply for the artist in residency program at the Van Gogh Immersion Exhibit and was selected as their January Artist in 2022. It was an absolutely incredible experience getting to paint live for people and sell my work everyday. I have some more art shows and online galleries coming up that I’m creating pieces for, and also accepting a limited amount of commission orders. As for business, I currently offer my self-guided video course “Captivate On-Camera” and serve a boutique experience for high-end digital marketing and video presence coaching for dedicated online entrepreneurs.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Well purchasing from them is always wonderful! It is the greatest honor to have something you create be exchanged for money by someone who loves and appreciates what you made and put it up in their home to see it every day and be part of their ambiance. Design and art changes the way a space feels and art as a incredible expression of who someone is, so it’s a genuine and great pleasure to be chosen as an artist that someone buys from. However not everyone is in the position to purchase original art, prints are always an option, but eventually you’ll even run out of wall space! By referring them, writing reviews, sharing with the artist how much you enjoy their work, sharing their content on social media are all great ways to support them and acknowledge the value they provide.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I had several people ask me how I was selected for the artist in residency program at the immersion exhibit, and my answer is simple, I saw it on their Instagram. I had attended as a guest and when I went to look at there social media, I saw that they had applications open for the residency. I submitted my portfolio and application and was hired. It’s not always going to be that easy, but it is that simple. Look for it. I’ve had so many people ask me how I got started in acting, I Googled it. Decide to believe in yourself and take the action. The biggest resource will always be yourself, your ability to believe in yourself and act upon it.
