We recently connected with Stacie Hunt and have shared our conversation below.
Stacie , appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Every birth is magical and breathtaking but Some of the most truly heartwarming moments in my career have been witnessing my daughters give birth surrounded by love and passion.in their own homes, in their own way and in their own time. Having the opportunity to help create that safe space and hold it for them as they bring forth life has been magical. It has been magical in an ancient way.
Stacie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been drawn to birth. My grandmother had 15 children at home including two sets of twins. After I had my first child in the hospital I felt an emptiness. That birth was suppose to be more than that. I chose to have my second at home. This was the most empowering experience of my life. I immediately felt that this was how women were intended to give birth. I felt a tugging in my soul that I was being called to be a midwife and healer like my ancestors. I began an apprenticeship with The Farm Midwives and stated on with them for about 20 years. Over the years as things changed with the Farm Midwives I felt the need to serve my community in a more personal way. Somewhere along the way I became a certified herbalist. I began my own practice and then opened a clinic in Ethridge, Tn along with Matt Niswander Np offering full scope midwifery services along with several other natural modalities including herbs.
I strongly believe that birth works and the worst thing you can do is do turn the body’s natural process to give birth unless absolutely necessary. I also believe that no matter what you cannot fail at birth.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being true to myself and true to birthing women. I have learned that even though occasionally the birth plan has to deviate if we trust the process then it will show us what we need to do. In our society we are taught to fear birth. My job is not to take that fear away but to guide you through it. You will. Come out on the other side and realize just how strong you are.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Understanding. Understanding that you are not in control.
Understanding that their are lots of different kinds of people out there.
Understanding that you are not a judge or a savior.
Understanding that not everyone wants the same things as you do and it’s ok.
And understanding that their are people who won’t hire you or like you and that’s ok. Trust that you will be with the people that you are suppose to be with.
