Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kat Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kat, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
When it comes to helping people declutter and organize their homes, it often comes with a story. I hear so many people tell me their “why” when it comes to letting things pile up in their homes. Each person has a different story, and I’m always so honored to get to be a part of the process.
For Pam and Jay they built their dream home with so many plans for their space. They couldn’t predict the challenges they were about to face. For over 15 years Pam’s health rapidly declined. They had to focus all their time, energy, and resources into making life manageable Things in their home went to the back burner and the clutter started to build. Their life was in chaos, and understandably so their home followed suit.
When Pam hired me I knew the process would take some time, and I was completely open to moving at their pace. Slowly but surely we started to declutter and organize every part of their home. The process was so healing for them as they hadn’t seen many parts of their space in over a decade. Pam often tells me she goes into rooms and just looks around because it makes her so happy.
Sometimes our home reflects our lives, mental health, physical limitations, and circumstances. Taking control of your home is a form of self-care. I’m extremely grateful to be a catalyst for people to love and enjoy their spaces!
Kat, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a professional organizer based in Tampa, FL. I started pursuing this passion of mine while working as a nanny/house manager. I was able to start taking clients, but ultimately wanted to give Kat’s Closets my full devotion. A little over a year ago I was able to make that happen for myself. I started taking clients full time and it’s been incredible to see the growth.
I help my clients declutter and organize their spaces. Whether it’s their home or business my goal for each of my clients is to help them maximize their space, create functional systems for them to maintain, and of course make it visually appealing! Since every space I work in is different, this job comes with tons of problem solving solutions to create space and also give fresh perspective.
One of my biggest strengths in my business is my personality. I’m able to make my clients feel comfortable throughout the entire process, and my clients enjoy the time we spend together. Bringing someone into your home can be very vulnerable, and I want all my clients to feel like they have a friend with them during the process. I bring all the enthusiasm and make them feel like their project isn’t as intimidating as it seems. My tagline for my business is “Get Your Sh*t Together”, which is an extension of my personality and couldn’t be more fitting for my line of work.
Having someone help you declutter and organize your home is definitely a luxury, but it is one of the best investments you can do for yourself!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Leaving my last job was unexpected and caused me to shift rapidly. I was scared to commit to my business full time, but I decided to take that leap of faith. Transitioning to a business owner completely shifted my perspective on what hard work looks like. I believed that working over 100+ hours a pay period was just me working hard, and what I had to do. I ended up being burned out and it took a toll on my health. Even though I don’t work nearly as many hours, I am working harder than ever before, and doing work that is extremely fulfilling.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Thumbtack and social media were my biggest sources of new clientele. Since growing for the last year I have also seen past clients and referrals become sources of new clientele as well as returning clients.
