Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Don Pedigo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Don, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’ve taken the ultimate risk in life, in my opinion of course, and that’s staying with the music. It’s truly a challenge to stay on an adventure like this while maintaining the picture moments most of us envision through the years. More generally speaking I’ve chosen so far, to stay with the horse that brought me to town if you will. The risk of being a songwriter and musician is like any choice really, time value. Sometimes it’s not what things mean but what they are worth to you. That leads me to say there’s meaning in worthiness. The choice to spend your time or pay attention to what you’re dialed in on is the most valuable currency to the individual. I find that putting my pen and instrument down thinking I might move on only drive me back to the both of them even harder. No matter the time, the thrill of a new song coming in gets me again and again. That in and of itself to me is really the reward for the risk.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I had a few small breaks along the way but after recording a demo with former Mellencamp guitarist Larry Crane I ended up here in Nashville with a publishing and record deal. I was sharing with a friend the other day the ultimate education I’ve had being here, working and performing here and abroad. Working as an artist and songwriter in every facet of this industry, I’ve woken up now in my own studio, with my own label and produce my own music. I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with and been produced by the best in the world like Earl Bud Lee and Ray Kennedy to name a few. When I opened my own studio and finally got my hands on the gear myself I realized that the knowledge to make the music cake can only be obtained in a few ways and in a few places. Many would argue that Nashville is the best place to find and learn music expertise. That’s not by any means a rule and now more than ever musicians can band together without being in a certain place however, Nashville is still largely a you’ve gotta be here town. As a songwriter, I have written not only for myself but for other artists, movies and musicals. I’m proud to have started our label Damnit Roy Records and so far have three albums under our belt. What we offer that might be a little different than other places around here is the organic, subtly rebellious approach to our productions. Some projects are written and recorded completely in the same room. I love it when that happens. It’s okay to use other, more modern techniques in production but we really try to capture lighting in a bottle with a more live feeling and less polished approach. Come ready to catch a good vibe make history when you step into Damnit Roy’s. We’ve also got some cool merchandise and would love to make new friends with those who are interested.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Some would say missions put to the drive to create is idealistic. I do though in a couple ways put important to me meanings and goals into what I release. I create all kinds of music, some days I’m braver than others on what I share but then other days I think, who cares? Chasing a muse, seeking balanced satisfaction, determining the line between lazy and crazy, all of these could be attributed to the shaping of anything we desire to do or be. So what might be idealistic in one opinion’s definition I might respond with “it’s not a condition if you’re aware that you’ve chosen the beliefs that got you where you wanted to go.” I need something to attach the ideas and feelings I have to in order to create something tangible and for sharing. That something is my mission.
