We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica McIntee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Before the COVID Pandemic, I left my first “Big Girl Job” and started my career as a Full Time Entrepreneur. Even though I was very excited, this was most definitely a risk. I mostly lived off of credit and loans at the time. Shortly after my decision, the world shut down and the pandemic worsened. As a stylist, we were not deemed as essential so we could not really work. Once we were allowed to go back to work, I noticed that the suite I had was not big enough. In less than a year of walking away from my previous job, I was able to open my first brick and mortar. This new step was a huge risk and I am glad that I took advantage of the opportunity. Expanding my business has allotted me more freedom & time to spend with family.
Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began styling hair at the age of 12. I received my Master Cosmetology license at 19. As a stylist, my main job is to help others enhance their beauty while creating a safe and confidential environment. During a client’s visit, I change their look while relaxing their minds. Recently, I have invested more into mental and emotional health through therapy and meditation. I also provide that setting for my clients. I am most proud of my general expansion & future of my business.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media through exhibiting my inner self. Usually business owners are more reserved and may seem conservative. I use social media to display my “fun side” such as my color changes or events. The best advice that I can give for someone who is starting to build their social media is; make sure you are yourself and DO NOT POST ANYTHING THAT YOU MAY REGRET. Always plan what you will post so you can throughly express yourself and stick to your strategy. Also, there is absolutely nothing with rebranding.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele is honesty & knowledge. If you are honest with others, and with yourself, more clients will trust you. If you learn and advance in your craft, your clients will feel more comfortable and so will you!
