We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeremiah(KGH Jerry) Pearson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah(KGH Jerry), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m definitely happier as a creative even with all the ups and downs that comes with it. I work on my brand and craft while working a full time job , so it’s honestly no days off, especially when majority of the money you make at a job is invested into your business.
Don’t get me wrong it has been times where I’ve wanted to stop and just go get a high paying job but then i realize it’s not my calling , it’s honestly would make me miserable… and the reason i know at 25 is because i even tried to change my career and i still found myself back on the same path of becoming a entertainer… making people have fun and happy !
Jeremiah(KGH Jerry), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Even when i was in college I’ve always been super creative , even sometimes ideas that are way to big to imagine!
But honestly i realized that i wanted this forever at 2 major points while in college . 1 was when i created a talent show at ETSU called the rising star talent show. And it was to show case the people who don’t get as much recognition as people who are apart of different groups.
Putting that event together was not only fun but a lot of work and i knew i wanted to do stuff like this.
Then what made me really more invested was when i interned at 2 radio stations in the tri cites, i knew this was just a area i loved .
What i want people to know about me as KGH Jerry and my brand DopeUnity , is that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and have faith and work hard towards your dreams and goals never giving up no matter what.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish i would have honestly knew how important a portfolio and resume was in college because a lot of different things i would have saved and recorded to add to my personal portfolio. At the time i was young and just trying to have fun but looking back now my portfolio would have been amazing if i would have saved different projects on video !
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Honestly after i graduated , and Covid 19 hit, i couldn’t find a job at all , what so ever in my field. So i decided to just go work with kids and all though i had a lot of fun it just was really what i wanted to do. So i kept looking and kept looking and finally got a call back for a interview at the radio station WJBE Jammin 99.7fm! All though i thought it was over i kept pushing !
