We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keisha Mathes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I had to let go of the lie that I had nothing to offer and I didn’t matter. In 2008 I was in an abusive marriage. I was denied the right and option to pursue my dream. In 2011 I filed for divorce after having spent half my life in that abusive relationship. I spent several years rebuilding myself and my life. It takes time, prayer and therapy to fully let go of all the toxicity that comes from that kind of relationship. When
I started my business in 2018 it was in direct defiance to that lie I had been living under for a decade. I was about 7 years out of my divorce and my new relationship with God gave me the courage to move forward. Through my business I have been able to not only uplift myself, but others as well by sharing my story and donating to local services for battered women. I have also been able to give back to my local community through political advocacy as well. As my business and I grow I look forward to being able to help my community and people around the world.
Keisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I initially had the idea to start my business 10 years before I actually officially launched it. I had friends around me who were business owners so they were always pushing me to do more. Because of how long I had held this desire I was absolutely terrified I would fail. These days I am just excited to be doing what I love. I was inspired by my mother’s journey to health. She was constantly sick when I was a child, and it wasn’t until she stepped away from conventional treatments that she found relief and healing. Her doctors prefer to call it remission. But it has been a permanent remission of over 20 years. What sets me apart is that I am on a mission to help people live better lives through great products and self accountability. My focus is the whole person. As a brand we are implementing ways to connect with our customer base and others through social media to encourage great habits, healthy lifestyles and personal advocacy. I set an intention to ‘first do no harm’ in honor of my mother and my friends that trust and respect me enough to refer to me as Dr. Keisha. Our products are primarily organic to limit the introduction of toxins. Our suppliers support sustainability in farming practices. As an organization we are working towards environmentally friendly packaging.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process./
I currently manufacture all of our products. We started in my kitchen and have grown into using a commercial kitchen. The commercial kitchen allows us to offer our products for sale through retail outlets instead of strictly straight to consumers. Since I have been making formulations for over a decade I was already aware of how to produce the product. It was important to me to ensure our consumer base was safe so we maintain food safety certification and follow best practice guidelines as well. As we expand our product lines we are venturing into uncharted territory so there is a lot of research involved on the state and federal level to make sure we are in compliance, as well as planning ahead for the expansion we are projecting with TBD new products.
