We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Coleman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. How has Covid changed your business model?
Covid-19 was one of the most interesting times for everyone around the world. It was and still is a sensitive topic for most but if we’re focusing on the glass half full – I would call it a blessing in disguise. Being in the health industry, I’ve noticed a major awakening for people when it comes to what they’re consuming and the behind the scenes process of their food. More than ever people are now seeing how important it is to take care of themselves, exploring different health alternatives, understanding their bodies etc. As a result, I’ve seen an increase in my number of clients and how dedicated my clients are to their goals. We have of course had to take more measures to ensure everyone’s safety and stay within the guidelines but overall I’m happy to see people become more curious about their long term health.

Tiffany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It’s crazy to sit back and think about how this all really unfolded for me. I never saw being a personal trainer as a career for me although all of the signs were there. Growing up I was a very active kid, my mother had me in everything from dance lessons to playing sports for my school. I was always on the go and had a schedule. Once I graduated highschool I went to college because I didn’t know exactly how to go about making my childhood dream of becoming a model and actress happen. After spending years in college constantly switching my major and doing the bare minimum to get by, I decided it was time to leave and figure out what I truly wanted out of life. That led me to exploring what I was naturally good at and leaning more on God for guidance which led me to testing out being a personal trainer. Before I took it seriously, I did a “trial run” by training friends and family members for free. Right away I knew I loved it and decided to take the next steps of becoming a certified personal trainer and actively start promoting my business on social media. Since starting my business, there has been many ups and downs, trials and errors but I’m still here sticking to it! Throughout the last 3 years, I’ve trained anyone from high school students to ex-military personnel until last year I niched down to coaching women entrepreneurs through my 6 week Holistic Lifestyle Transformation program. I would say I’m most proud of my will to continue to follow my dreams no matter how hard it’s gotten and what obstacles I had to overcome. Not many people talk about it, but the first few years of starting your business are the hardest because you’re learning how to get things off the ground and get comfortable with the uncertainty of entrepreneurship. Although what we do is very impactful to our communities and rewarding – it comes with its fair share of tough moments and trying seasons that will have you questioning yourself and if it’s worth it. The main things I want people to know about my brand is that it’s a direct reflection of me. We are very transparent and honest with you. I’m fully committed to learning as much as I can about my field so that I’m always giving you guys the best and most up to date information and tools.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My honesty and transparency. I understand the “Fake it til you make it” mantra has worked for many, but I prefer to let people see my process and see in real time how I handle challenges within my business or even to celebrate my wins with me. In doing this, I feel as though people are truly connected to me and my journey which has built the trust between us. My community knows my heart, character and passion for what I do. People know BS and people also know what’s real. I prefer to lay everything on the table and let people decide if they want to love me or hate me. Either way I’m fine with the outcome because I know it’s genuine because I led in a genuine way.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that I can’t do everything by myself. I know for my fellow women entrepreneurs and other alpha females this concept is hard (I still struggle with it) but it’s so necessary in order to continue to grow in business and personally. I grew up watching my mother do everything on her own as a single mother so naturally I just felt inclined to do everything on my own. I’ve had a job since the first day I was legally able to and I’ve always felt I had to fend for myself. Once I started my business, as more doors opened up for me and more people started to lean into my community I realized that what I’m doing is bigger than me and will take more than me to maintain it. For a long time I didn’t value help, opinions of others or constructive criticism. It wasn’t because I didn’t care about others, it was a trauma response but because of me viewing life like this, I missed out on so many opportunities and great people. I was in my own way for so long. Now that I’m on the other side of it I’m grateful for the experiences, but now I can help others who may be experiencing similar situations.
