Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vidisha Bajpai. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vidisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’m a self-taught visual artist, and have been painting since I was 5 years old. Art has been always my passion, a way to express myself. I have won many awards in various art contests at the city and state level competitions in India and US. I started painting as a hobby, but have always wanted to serve others through my talent.
I have served PTA board as Arts in Education chairperson at my kids school for many years. I loved working with kids at several projects like making cards for our city first responders and teachers.
I joined VAGF (Visual Arts Guild of Frisco) and served as their board member as well. My journey as a professional artist started with Fresh Start 2016 juried art show in Frisco. My artwork got exhibited in Gallery 8680 ‘s popular juried art show called Botanicals , 33rd and 36th Texas and Neighbors Regional Art Exhibition , earned 3rd place at an exhibition “ROOTS” hosted by Texas Visual Arts Association. My work has been exhibited in several prestigious art shows: Fresh Start, Artrageous , Crème de la Crème juried art shows of Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, Art214 Dallas by Dallas city, Animal Art Show by Irving Art Association, 53rd Annual Regional Art Exhibition and Sale by Richardson Civic Art Society.
While I was very appreciative of the immense recognition and accolades I was receiving, I was also getting several requests from young aspiring artists to share my knowledge and experience with them. What started as a couple of fun workshops soon turned into several tutoring classes for all age groups, and I opened my own studio in my home office called ‘Vidisha Art Studio’.
You can find my artwork on my website: www.vidishabajpai.com, as well as on my Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/vidishaartstudio
Vidisha , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in India, and moved to the Dallas area 20 years ago, and have been living in Orlando since June 2021. I have a BA in Mathematics and have pursued advanced certifications in Computer science. Painting is a spiritual journey for me wherein each of my artwork reflects my love and passion – It’s like meditation.
I love to work with oil and acrylic paints, and I have been teaching art for the past 10years. I have worked in abstract art, Indian folk art,Tuscany art. You can find my artwork at www.vidishabajpai.com and some of my artworks are also part of the Gallery 32789 on Park Avenue in Winter Park , FL. My work has also been exhibited at various art shows and galleries like Orlando Museum of Art , Orlando International Airport (MCO), Fusion Fest at Dr Phillips Convention Center, Dallas Bishop Arts District, Frisco Discovery Center, McKinney Performing Arts Center, Irving Arts Center, Dallas Latino Cultural center, Bath House Cultural center, Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson, Coppell Art Center, Texas Visual Art Association.
I like to stay involved with our community, spreading peace and love through arts and encouraging people to appreciate it. The vast majority of my work is very colorful as I believe that colors bring joy to life, and they have the power to fill life with beauty, love, and peace. I love donating my artwork for good causes to various charities. I have donated my work within the Dallas metroplex and Central Florida over the last couple of years for the following initiatives:
Indian American Chamber of Commerce 12th Annual Ashoka Awards Gala, American Heart Association, Kids Beating Cancer, Power of the Purse organized by Central Florida Women’s League to raise funds for the scholarships for the underprivileged high school girls, Festival of Trees and Art in Bloom organized by the Council of 101 to raise funds for Orlando Museum of Art, Love and Hope Gala organized by Community Enrichment Center, Grace Grapevine, Spring Luncheon organized by Southlake Women’s club, Wild Flower Luncheon organized by the Garden Club of Frisco to raise scholarships for students who want to pursue Horticulture studies in college, donated my painting to Southlake Chamber of Commerce Annual fundraising awards dinner event, SEWA DFW organized Diwali dinner to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey victims.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As I have mentioned earlier, I am an artist with heart to serve others through my talent. It’s a driving force for me. I am fortunate that I am blessed with this amazing talent, and I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason in life. Using my talent to help others brings purpose to my life and also gives it a beautiful meaning.
For the past couple of years, I have been practicing Indian folk art called Madhubani. Madhubani art has been practiced by women in rural India since ancient times. It’s their only way of earning their livelihoods. Hence this art form is a source of empowering underprivileged women in South Asian villages. Being an art philanthropist, I feel responsible to introduce this beautiful art form to everyone and promote it on a global platform. I am also in middle of writing a book about this intricate and beautiful art form.
I love to share my talent with others, that’s why I started my art classes . Seeing that wow face of my students when they create something that they have never imagined gives me tremendous joy.
I love to help others find their joy through painting. Finally, I have raised thousands of dollars for several charities by donating my artworks to various charities in the Dallas area as well as in Central Florida.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is helping people find their joy through art. However, I’m most proud of the fact that my daughter got inspired by all the community service work I have been doing, and about 3 years ago, she opened her own non profit called Anika Art Foundation. It was fun to experience mother-daughter partnering on several global volunteering initiatives like hosting an art workshop for an orphanage in the Bahamas and an art camp for hundreds of underprivileged students in India. My daughter and I also raised thousands of dollars for charitable organizations and served senior living centers, children’s hospital, and city’s first responders. To be able to pursue my childhood passion of creating beautiful artwork and channeling that passion towards charitable causes and serving my community is somewhat unique based on my experiences. And the fact that our first born was so inspired by my efforts and decided to pursue her own passion in this field both philanthropically as well as academically (she’s now pursing a BFA in visual effects & animation at NYU) is nothing short of a dream come true!
