We recently connected with Tiffany Holmes and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is what we try to achieve based on the goals we set forth for ourselves. There are so many moving parts to being successful. I believe in order to be successful not only in business, but life in general, it takes faith, patience, resilience, dedication, time, patience, hard-work and passion. To be successful means not being afraid of failing or facing any obstacle thrown your way. The setbacks we face and small fires we have to put out help us grow; it also lends itself to be a great testimony. Challenges may arise, but through it you can learn about yourself and grow. You have to be willing to make changes in life to reach your goals. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Trust the process and the journey. Take responsibility for what transpires during this time. Good or bad it’s the path leading up to success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My boutique is a celebration of pearls. I’ve absolutely adored pearls from a very young age. I remember when I received my first real strand of pearls (which I still have). I instantly fell in love. They were so beautiful. I wore them all the time. So much so I’ve had them restrung a few times over the years. On my site I reference that Pearls are a symbol of great beauty and purity—both timeless and contemporary. This naturally stunning gem will forever be a jewelry box classic. We have found ways to love pearls beyond the traditional strand. My boutique offers an array of pearl inspired gifts for any occasion. Whether it be pearl sunglasses, a pearl purse, or pearl jewelry, we offer pearl gifts in quite a few categories. I want the world to know that Polished Pearl Boutique offers our love and adoration of pearls through our thoughtful selection of products and careful attention to details. We’ve all heard that pearls go with everything and we strongly believe so. Pearls are timeless, sophisticated and whether dressed up or dressed down they make a personal style statement all their own. We love that our style is synonymous with grace and beauty. Classy, elegant and well…Polished!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When starting my business one of the biggest questions that popped in my head was where should I start financially. I made the choice to invest in myself—my business. I didn’t want to accrue any debt. I was a new, small business and the last thing I wanted to have to worry about while starting my business was owing the bank money and paying off loans. I took some money from my savings and started from there. Of course I had to look at my personal finances, the goals for my business, and my business finances. What it came down to was understanding my finances and goals to make the most sound and effective decisions for my business.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
There are quite a few ways I find new clients. Social media has the ability to reach large audiences and being one of if not the most popular forms of communication, having a strong presence has huge benefits. I run ads that market my products, sales and accomplishments of my business as a whole. I love to share posts of my clients wearing items from my boutique. This brings me to another great source—publicizing my clients (with their permission). What better way to build clientele than to see someone actually wearing those pearl earrings or wearing that pearl purse you sell. Another great source for my business has been referrals. Satisfied customers help build referrals.
