We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Garrett Turner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Garrett, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

Being a business owner allows you to have a direct impact on your businesses success or failure and is quite an exhilarating feeling. Coming out of graduate school I was fortunate enough to accept a position with a Fortune 10 company. It was such a great opportunity to be surrounded with bright individuals and to be able to further grow professionally. After about a 7-year stint I decided it was time for me to make the transition full-time to my business and focus my energy and time there. Early on there were hurdles, like struggling to find a role in my business where I was able to add the most value. These struggles sometimes made me question if I had made the right decision by leaving my regular job. Often, I’d ponder what it would be like going back to just a regular job but then I’m quickly reminded of the flexibility, sense of ownership and reward that is instilled in entrepreneurship. Certainly, the risk is much higher being a business owner and at times the financial uncertainties can create quite a bit of stress but reaping the mental and financial rewards makes all the risks and struggles worth it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I began on the service side of the hot tub industry in the late 2000s. While working part-time delivering and installing hot tubs I went to school full-time pursuing a bachelor’s in business. Before and during school I had a background in small business as the General Manager of a Car Wash and Auto Center. I worked as a Manager in this industry for nearly 8 years, learning the ins and outs of running a business. Finally, in 2012 I decided to go back to school and in 2014 I received my MBA with a focus on Finance.

Fast forwarding to 2022 we now operate multiple retail locations in North Texas focusing on health, wellness, and fitness. We are a Hot Tub, Swim Spa and Sauna retailer with a mission to improve the quality of life for our customers by providing products and services that enhance both mental and physical health while bringing loved ones closer together.

When you come into our store our goal is to educate consumers of the benefits that our products create while making the shopping experience seamless. We operate with integrity in everything we do which means no deceitful pricing specials and certainly no high-pressure sales tactics.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

My business was self-funded meaning all the capital deployed was directly from my own savings. This allowed me to not carry the burden of having debt but inevitably slowed the growth process seeing it was all organic.
