We recently connected with JJ Media Group and have shared our conversation below.
JJ Media , appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Being an entrepreneur is no simple task it takes dedication, resilience, and a lot of patience. For me trying to do this full-time has been challenging however it has also been very rewarding being able to do what you love and see it on video is something special. It’s undescribable sometimes I can’t believe we do what we do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Johnny Mambo Arreola and I am the cofounder of Jj media group LLC. When we started Jj media it was because we were trying to expand from what we were already doing. We wanted a space for our own to also offer our creative home to other people that wanted to do the same. My business partner and also co owner of JJ media, Jonathan aka Gonz the other J in Jj media Had won a video contest on a Food Network channel video contest. And that’s where we figured out we wanted to pursue video.Keep in mind this was right before the pandemic and we did not know what was going to happen. As soon as we signed the lease to our Office the whole city shut down. What were we to do? How are we going to pay rent? These were all questions that we were trying to figure out. We had taken an idea and turned it into a reality however now we needed to make money to sustain and keep the doors open. This is where we started to expand and start our journey as cinematographer‘s. There was one missing link to our success, and this is where Sergio our cinematographer comes into play. He had been looking for a team to help him in his journey as a cinematographer and we hit it off right away! Immediately we started working with him slowly but surely he started becoming a essential part of Jj media and we never looked back. And it all
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What motivates us and makes us continue to strive for perfection is the love of the art. We are also seeing a big move here in Houston Texas for cinematography. It’s now becoming one of the hottest places to come and shoot video content in the United States. And the reason being because California Has been very difficult especially during the pandemic where they weren’t able to shoot anything due to the restrictions. A lot of cinematographers directors and actors were coming down to shoot their videos and content to continue to make a living out of what they do. I feel like there’s so much talent in this city and we want to be one of the top media companies out here.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to create some thing and see it on the screen. I also love working with other creatives and having good work relationships and continuing to push the envelope. Your circle of contacts become bigger and bigger and you figure out that you’re not the only one trying to make it. I am very happy with the people in my city that I work with. There’s no egos there’s no I’m better than you there’s just a lot of how can we work together to make this even better. And that makes me proud.
