We caught up with the brilliant and insightful HJ McNeely a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, HJ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
Here at MW Shrinky Charms we believe in giving back to our community.
We have given back to many organizations or causes such as The Trevor Project, National Suicide Awareness , Breast Cancer Awareness, and Autism Awareness.
We donate a portion of each sale to help toward each cause as we believe in giving back.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
HJ McNeely and Ashley Werden started their company during the summer of 2020 when Covid hit. Unable to go out and do things like regular children, they decided to create charms and give back to our communities.
The sisters created charms for the BLM movement, LGBTQA+ Community, Suicide, Breast Cancer, and Autism Awareness along with many others such as Disney and Marvel characters.
A portion of the proceeds goes to help various charities.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We originally started off with family and friends and slowly built ourselves up through word of mouth. We recently engaged in a project with the 51 Mile Run for Trevor Project and marketed our keychain charms to those apart of the run. We used the proceeds towards helping runners meet their goals for the donations.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It has been a struggle to gain new clientele as we are very young and do not know many people. However we are working hard to meet new people and working with many charities to market our charms and in turn, donate our proceeds back to the charities.
