wWe’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paige Neal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paige below.
Paige, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I can say with 100% certainty that I am happier as a business owner! I always knew that I wanted to have a creative career, and when I found photography it was an instant feeling of “this is right”. I love being able to have the freedom to make all of my own choices, to make my own schedule, and to be competitive only with myself. I appreciate the lasting friendships I have made with clients, and I enjoy watching families grow and change over the years. When I think about the negatives of owning my own business, there is really only one. It can be overwhelming to be a one person business. For example, here are the roles I play as a full time photographer: Client communication, social media manager, website designer, blogger, editer, photographer, payroll. It can be a lot to juggle, but over the last three years I have implemented systems that work for me and keep me on top of everything in my business.
Paige, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I found photography in high school by taking a random class, and had so much fun with it that I never stopped. I had been looking for a creative outlet and this was the one that clicked for me. I worked a full time job and did photography on the side for two years, then went full time and never looked back! I offer family, maternity/newborn, branding and couples photography. I love making sessions fun and laid back for my clients, and provide them with images that showcase their bond with their loved ones! I am really proud of the consistent brand I have created, and of how personalized the experience I provide is. My goal is always for my work to show how passionate I am about documenting your memories!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Building a business in a state where you do not know anyone can be really difficult. I moved to Texas, from Iowa, and started my business from scratch here. There were definitely times in the two years I was working a full time job and trying to build my business where I felt like it was never going to happen for me. Thankfully, I have supportive family and friends who encouraged me to never give up! Without their support and encouragement I would have had a much harder time. Having good people around you while you’re building something can make all of the difference!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for my creative journey is to make the people I get to work with happy! I love knowing that the photos I deliver to these families and couples will be a memory they can look back on for the rest of their lives. It is so rewarding to have someone reach out after their photos are delivered and let me know that I helped them see themselves in a positive light and helped them see how beautiful they are!
