We were lucky to catch up with Adela Dan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adela , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
As a photographer, do I wish I would have started my business sooner? Yes, absolutely! If I could go back in time I should have listened to my gut instinct and been more confident to start photography earlier in life. It was always my number one passion since I was doing modeling in my younger years. Then life happened and I was stuck working a 8-5 job then I started a family and well I just never thought having my own business would really come true. During those times I thought to myself that who would even want me to photograph them? How would I even grow as a beginner photographer with so much competition in the industry, will I even be that good enough as an artist? Well, little did I know that my hobby and passion would slowly grow and become an established Cleveland photographer. It took about 3 years to slowly grow, and I have so much more growing and learning to do in order to reach to my goals and dreams. That’s why I wish I would have started sooner.. people actually appreciate my work and my talent and I am so grateful that!
Adela , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For the folks that may have not read about me in the previous article, my name is Adela Dan owner and photographer at Adela Dan Photography LLC. I am a Cleveland-based photographer born and raised in Romania.
My passion for photography started very early in my teen years when I started modeling. I always enjoyed being in front of the camera and also had a curiosity of what it would be like to be behind the camera to be the director, the creator, and the artist with the magic eye.
2020 was the year I started my serious attempt at photography while I became a stay home mom. I was ready to take a risk and make my dream a reality.
What I believe sets me apart from other amazing photographers, is my “editorial” touch. I like to turn people into art, to have the final photos look like something out of a magazine. I believe my modeling years really helped me create this niche for editorial vibes photography.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients is, social media! Like any other entrepreneur, I have to hustle as a freelance photographer. It’s all about marketing myself, perusing opportunities and generating work. Social media plays an essential role in marketing. I have to post daily my best work, and always have to keep up with the latest trends in order to attract more business.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
So far the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been Instagram. Social media does wonders if you know how to communicate with your audience and market yourself to create awareness for your brand.
