Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jesseca Spearmon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jesseca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
The best investment I made as a business owner was going to school. I knew I wanted to expand my business in ways that would require me to have a cosmetology license. Yes, I am a licensed braider, but having a cosmetology license will allow me to expand my services and my knowledge. I would like to be an educator as well. I want to be a mentor to aspiring hairstylists or business owners. With going to school I have the opportunity to see how salon life is and how a salon is ran. I get the “behind the scenes” of the beauty industry and I am forever grateful to have that experience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of Jess Beauty Bar LLC & I just recently celebrated my 2 year anniversary. It has been about 18 months since I quit my job and been full time into my business. I started off on a path in nursing but realized quickly that I was happier pursuing my passion in hair. So with great risk and anxiety I took a chance on myself and began building my brand. It was very slow at first but quickly picked up. I began with only providing sew ins and 2 types of braid styles now I’ve expanded to over 10+ booking options for children and adults. I was excited and amazed at how quickly my business and clientele grew. I built lasting relationships with my clients. Some even feel like family to me. We laugh, we smile, and they push me to stay motivated in my journey. I have some clients who even reach out and ask me how school is going or give words or advice. The thing that sets me apart from others is that I am reasonably priced, I am flexible, compassionate , and driven when it comes to my business. I make sure my clients have a smooth service and a great experience each time they visit me. I am most proud of everything. I started off doing hair every now and then to making it my career and loving every moment of it. It’s nothing like watching what you created grow and have the support and loyalty of people who once upon a time didn’t even know me or my talents existed ! The main things I am focused on is continuing my education and the rebranding of Jess Beauty Bar for 2023.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clients is recommendations and word of mouth! Nothing speaks more for a business than a referral. People love to try things that someone else loved and told them about. Most of my clients come from referrals. It’s satisfying to know someone enjoyed you and your work enough to spread the word.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I offer sales or deals for my clients. Usually anywhere from 15% off to raffles offering free styles to the first place winner. I love and appreciate all my clients and by offering deals it show my appreciation to them. I also keep track of appointments and give clients discounts after every 6th service if a deal is not already in place. I will also be creating loyalty cards for my clients so they can also keep track of their visits and get rewarded along the way.
