We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mike Jordan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mike below.
Mike, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Quite often I feel this actually and I think it’s a mix of social media and just a sense of being overlooked because I don’t try to be in everyone’s face to get my work seen. I truly do enjoy networking and meeting other creatives. I just see too many times especially in my city where that seems to be the only way to really get on to sort of say. I’m naturally not a man that will be in anybody’s face for the heck of it and but I’m very social at the same time lol. So with that i think a lot of times i come off standoffish and it’s the complete opposite, once i get comfortable around someone its hard to shut me up. I thoroughly enjoy organic interactions with my art, love life and all other relationships. I think that plays a huge part of me feeling my work is misunderstood or doesn’t get the reach I know it should but it’s a marathon not a sprint so gotta keep going.

Mike, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mike Jordan and i go by The Eye Of The Shooter, I’ve been shooting for 6 years self taught outside of my bro Paul showing me the basics to get going. Starting off I really didn’t know anything about the direction I wanted my art to go in, but I’ll say over the last 3 years I’ve definitely gotten a better sense of what I want to display with my art to the world and the legacy I want behind it.
I’m an artist so I don’t like to box myself in as far as the services I offer to my clients with being said i mainly specialize in portraits and fine art photography. My fine art prints are where I think my love for photography lies. It’s the genre that I honestly feel I can show alil bit more of what I’m feeling and seeing around me in my personal life. It’s what keeps me locked in and going with the art even with the lows you can experience within it. Even with all of the highs and lows I wouldn’t want to be anything other than a photographer.
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my eye and just my work ethic displayed with my clients. I go above and beyond on my shots. Whether it be turning around edits faster or delivering a print in person. I want anybody that chooses to work with my brand to have an experience they can talk about for years down the line.
Main thing I want my potential clients and fans of my work to do is just be yourself and trust me and you’ll leave with some of the best images you could ask to have for any occasion in your life.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is seeing my work in homes and capturing people’s special moments in time. That’s what is creating my legacy and what is going to cement it. Having someone bring me in whether it’s a clothing brand, musician looking for content or a family session it means alot to me to be the one to capture those moments. It bonds us for life even if we only end up working and crossing paths for that instance, just shows we were meant to create in that moment. What I love about photography and why I do it.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think for starters the best support is to pay creatives across the board for their work. A lot of times I’ve personally experienced even this year where people want your services/talent but only if it’s for free. They make promises to creatives even with already knowing they can’t or just don’t want to make sure we are taken care of for our services and time. I have a very good heart and I think sometimes this gets taken advantage of in this industry, so these days I’m very selective of who I choose to work with. I will say though the community of artists I’ve been blessed to come across and even befriend makes things a lot easier to navigate through these issues that arise sometimes.
