Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Rector Jr.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Christopher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Honestly I feel misunderstood quite a bit. There was always this feeling in my spirit which drives me to be competitive; I always have wanted to be the best. So when I started rapping I wanted to be the best at my craft! That in itself turned a lot of people away from me because they thought I was rude or cocky and the whole time I’m just a very confident and fun person. I’ve never intended to make others feel bad I just wanted to be amazing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into music at a very young age from listening to my father who was Hip Hop artist and his favorite music as well. My biggest influences are Ye & Drake so listening to them really created a direct interest in hip hop . The when I was in the 7th grade I started playing guitar which was soon banned by my parents because my grades were slipping. So as you can see music has always been a big deal to me and means so much to me.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think the big lesson that non creatives need to learn is that just because you don’t understand my experience or because its the not the path that’s regularly traveled doesn’t make my experience any less valid than an average lifestyle. Of course I know its hard to make it big in the music industry! But I love my journey and its a tough one don’t make it harder by trying to tell me something I already know.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist to me is just seeing the reaction and impact my music has on others. The supporters are definitely like a family to me and I never want to take for granted the amount of energy it takes to take an album, listen to it and truly dissect it. Then you have the love you get from doing shows and being able to see the people that love you and your music. All of it is a surreal feeling that I never will forget or take for granted.
