We were lucky to catch up with Janay Boynton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Janay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
When I first started out I had a good bit of support from friends and family in 2020 but as the time past I started losing my customers due to it being multiple entrepreneurs in my local city selling the same products with different quality. 2021 I rebranded and reached out for help again due to me being ready to open up my store front and most of them refused the offer again me knowing that I was only trying to put us all in a position to win together. As of 2022 I made my 3rd attempt to reach out to the ones I genuinely care for to see if they are serious about their future and life goal at becoming a better them and I got the same results. I have finally accepted the fact that I have to move forward to build my audience/multimillionaire dreams on my own. And everything is currently in the process 2023 my dreams will turn into reality.
Janay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At the age of 15, I always had a passion for all things associated with beauty and fashion. In high school, I took on cosmetology to learn the different techniques of hair and all hair care products. In the meantime, I was doing some of my classmate’s and friend’s hair for years when I had the free time. In 2020 when Covid-19 entered the world I lost my job due to working in the medical field and my clients took sick. I needed another source of income to keep my bills paid and by me already knowing about the beauty industry the first thing that came to mind was why not sell hair extensions and mink lashes. I took all my ideas and put them to use and started Adore Janay Collection LLC with the help of my loved ones. At first, it was an ongoing consistent sales from my local customers in my hometown which is Augusta, GA. until around about the end of 2020. When 2021 came I decided to rebrand my business and took on a business 1 on 1 course from multiple entrepreneurs that helped me in different ways. I took the knowledge and made the best out of it. Once I finished my rebranding I made my first post with a sale and set up my ads campaign and my sales was just coming in until the point I had to stop accepting orders due to not having all of the inventory. As of now In 2022 my business is doing great I upscaled my website and did a new photoshoot and was able to add shop now pay later for my customers that need to slay now and pay later. I travel between Augusta, GA and Atlanta, GA. On a regular to make sure I meet all my local customer’s needs. Out of cities and states, Customers are also treated with love and care as well
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
In 2021 I took a big risk with marketing and lost out on thousands of dollars. I was devastated because that money I lost couldn’t be replaced so easy knowing I was paying for everything out of pocket. I then took out the time to read up more on marketing And understanding how to run ads to generate and make sales worldwide. Once I came up with my own marketing strategy and set my ads up my sale started to generate and come in consistently.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is thinking that since I’m doing something positive with myself that the people you know will show up and support you. But In all honesty god will put total strangers in your life that will support you quicker than the people you know. Since I’ve started my marketing campaigns I have a lot of new customers to support me and has also became a boss friend in the process.
