We were lucky to catch up with Five Richh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Five, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m definitely more happier as a creative, like I’ve always knew that my mind work differently — I would see sounds and hear colors. That’s how I describe it. Working a 9 to 5 was always just another hustle for me, when I did work one like it was just another way to get money so I can fund my creative mind and ideas and projects and help other people fund their dreams and projects.
I’m not gonna lie and sit up here as if those times where I was on my ass, meaning had no money, and pandemic just hit and I was really just picking up clients sporadically… I didn’t know where my next check would be coming from. I didn’t know whether to renew my lease I didn’t know if there would be corporate jobs available to work, it was very early in the pandemic. It was a lot of questioning for me mentally.
My biggest thought was “maybe I should quit what I’m doing now because things aren’t working out” and “I should just get that regular job to have this stability and less worries and more security” but to be honest it’s just not fun, it’s not thrilling, it doesn’t fulfill me. There are times in every creatives life, if you’re not like super prideful, you go out and get this job because you know in your mind that this job is literally just a “terrible creative project” lol like you’re just going into it just to get paid.
Legit like once every quater I think to myself “is it really worth it”. You start doubting yourself, you start having imposter syndrome and you just think that the easier route would be for everyone around you, for your future, for your living situation. for your next meal, is to get a job and be normal. But I always knew I wasn’t normal. I always knew that desk work would not fulfill me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is five richh, I’m an entrepreneur and a creative genius. I got into the business around like 2014 and I was just creating projects and cover art for a lot of artists. I was providing the services for little to nothing but once I realize like you could really make money off of your ideas and your creative vision, I just took off from there.
I started curating events around the city, I am infamously known for the “Summer Rim Basketball Tournament”. Google it lol. I took that momentum and that hype and started doing other creative collaboration and projects with people. I currently take other brands and build them up creatively through marketing with e-commerce and enhance their online and offline presence. I’m very very proud to be able to do this. I take my services seriously when it comes to these brands to elevate them because I wish you know someone was there to pretty much elevate me. I had to learn a lot of things my own I’m always student and I just want potential clients or followers or fans whatever to know that if we do work together or if you do need help with some thing the job is going to get done. I invest in a couple e-commerce companies and am always looking for cool projects to get on board with.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Non-creatives don’t understand why we do what we do. they can’t fathom or wrap their head around why we get up everyday and choose: struggle.
LOL, like it’s easy for them to say “well if it’s not working out right now you might as well just get on with this company and work here for 50 years and retire at least you’ll be straight. You can go buy a house” and all that ra-ra right, but where is the journey? like where are the obstacles of figuring it out ? where is the rush.
Personally like i feel they were scared as shit. I want to say right now don’t be scared of us. If you ever wanted to do something but you were too afraid to do it, just say that. You’re not going to understand why creatives go out here and hustle the way we do. At the end of the day it takes a power I cannot even explain, it takes a drive I can’t even put into words right now to be an entrepreneur to be a business owner. Trying to get people to believe in you that’s one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
When non-creatives think about what I do, it’s like why would people want my help, why would people trust me, why would people not just you know try to do it on their own as far as branding and marketing and things like that and it’s like because I do it well. People do it but do they do it well? And I’m very stern in my tone right now because non-creatives are the most judgmental and they are the most negative so it’s important that we understand why they say the things that they do so we can overcome them.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Very simple. What you don’t understand will always be dumb. I understand it, it’s amazing and lucrative. I don’t know if i’ll buy NFT’s for profit. I would purchase and get behind a project because I love ART.
