We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chance and Chase Cheeney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chance and Chase below.
Chance and Chase, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
We enjoy making our audience feel our music. Songs that we have written, the audience can pull from that song to relate to something that might have happened in their lives or someone that they know lives. When and audience member comes to ask us to play a song we try and do what we can to play that song for them.. If we don’t know the song we try to learn it during our break and play it on our next set. Fulfilling the audiences needs and seeing them smile is the best satisfaction that we could ever have.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
The Cheeney Brothers
My name is Chance Cheeney and my brother is Chase Cheeney. We reside in League City Texas. We are a brother acoustic duo. We play a variety of family friendly music. We have about 7 hours worth of music together!! Plenty of covers as well as some originals.
I am the oldest and play lead guitar and vocals. Chase Cheeney is the lead vocalist, plays violin and guitar. We have been playing together for about 4 1/2 years and have written some of our on music.
Chase speaking hear “I wrote my first song when I was 11 years old and it was about 911. I was watching a documentary about 911 and asked my mom what was falling off the building and she said those were people that were jumping because of the fire and smoke. I started to cry and went inside my room and got a note pad and a pen and started writing down my feelings on how I would feel if it were me trying to make a decision whether to go and help or run. Started humming a melody and then put it into a song. My parents heard me singing in the closet and asked me to sing it for them and they look at the words. Took me to a recording studio to record the song and then called the radio station and they put it out on a radio station KGBC Radio down in Galveston Texas. They ran the song for a very long time in their rotation. They then interviewed me. My mom and dad saw the talent and asked me if I would like to go to a songwriters camp. Which I said I would love to. So she asked my brother as well and we started going to Real Life Real Music Song Writing Camp at the Dosey Doe in the Woodlands. We started going to the camp once and then added in School Of Rock for a couple of years and this is ok how it all started.
We have played at many different events such as weddings, restaurants, birthday parties, special events, festivals, nursing homes, retirement parties and plenty of benefits, such as Suicide awareness, cancer benefits, Equusearch etc.. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
We went out and played a few gigs and word of mouth was the thing that helped us the most. We really appreciate people that share our information and subscribe and follow our social media. This has helped us the most.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
We are very fortunate to have parents that are supporting of us! Our parents helped us start this business and they have been by our side throughout. Chance hear, I am currently a Junior in college taking 15 hours, work at Canes, go to guitar lessons once a week and perform on the weekends at our gigs 1-3 gigs a weekend. Chase hear, I am currently a junior in high school and I am involved in Orchestra Chamber 2 at school, go to guitar lessons once a week, and taking all AP and honors classes. Gaining the knowledge through our parents and schooling have helped us to now supplement our own business through the money we make and put back for our gigs. It is a lot of work, but we’ll work all of it. We really enjoy what we do.
