We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nader Elchaar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nader below.
Nader, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I just finished a mental health project that is extremely personal to me, it’s probably my darkest work yet. This project is a visual showcase of the struggles people face with depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and body dysmorphia. This project series allowed me to showcase my past personal struggles in a unique and creative way. They explore personal thoughts and experiences I have been through in life, free of judgment from others. I feel like we have a lot of work to do when it comes to mental health as a society, but I’m hoping others see this project and can relate to it in a way. Mental Health is about the importance of ourselves and to reach that point we must heal, this project was a healing journey for me.
Nader, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I am Nader Elchaar, a graphic designer & illustrator based in Atlanta, GA. I have been drawing since I was able to pick up a pencil and have been creating art ever since. My main goal is to help and inspire other creatives with unique content that’s informative, inspiring, and entertaining. When I design, there is always a reason behind every color, layout, typeface, and sketch that I create. I love the challenge that creativity brings as I’m constantly inspired to create and design in fun, meaningful, and innovative ways. I am proud of how much my work and skills have grown these past few years and I am continuing to improve every day. I hope people view my projects and relate to or feel inspired by them. I feel that every artist has a unique way of creating their work, telling their story, and showcasing it to the world; that’s why every artist stands out in their own way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when I complete a project or getting myself out of a artist’s block. Artist block for those that don’t know is when your artistic motivation runs dry and you can’t come up with any ideas, you feel stuck. I have been working on my personal mental health project since April of 2022 and I feel relieved now that I have completed it entirely. I love when people view my work and can relate to the story being told or feel inspired by what I created.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The world is extremely competitive, especially in the creative world. A lot of non-creatives assume that being an artist is as simple as picking up a pencil and starting a project, it’s not. Some creatives go months without creating anything because no one is purchasing their art, requesting commissions, or they can’t find a job in their creative field of study. It takes hours and maybe months to complete projects, and sometimes the creator is going through an artist’s block. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Arts & Science degree in 2020 and I have yet to find an opportunity in the creative industry, as well as millions of other people going through the same thing. One piece of advice I will give to non-creatives is to SUPPORT your fellow creators, purchase their work, like, share, comment, etc. whenever you see them post on social media. Show them that you appreciate their hard work and talents, it takes less than a minute and it will make them feel good.
